off the shelf they were probably made several years …be slower, but at greatly faster speeds than

You'll need to split it up into >1.4mb chunks using any freeware file splitter. Data residing on
floppies
is also easily corrupted. I recommend that you transfer it to a usb flash drive to save yourself a lot of labor.

because I can delete and reuse them whenever I no longer need the info. a cd burner using cd-rw disk will work the same , cd-rw are also erasable , and you can edit file and save the changes ,when using CD-RW disks . but i agree a usb thumb drive will be the best and cheapest way to go

Is this the right sub-forum for this? I'm wondering, is there a definitive answer these days about whether the x-rays at airport screenings damage floppy disks? Last time I flew, I just asked for them to be hand-searched instead, but you never know if those guys will give you a hard time. ;)

Have them, and drives on a couple of old workstations I keep around for "historical" purposes - a Gateway 486 (w/ EISA bus and SCSI array) and a Dell P2-450. My current laptops and workstation don't have floppy drives. I use micro sd cards in a USB carrier instead. A 2GB chip is about $5USD, and a 4GB one is almost as cheap... :-) So, in …

FWIW, the Gateway 486 EISA bus system is what I used to develop a clean-room implementation of TCP/IP for the QNX 2 real-time operating system back in the early 90's. That was before the BSD TCP stack was released into the wild (open sourced). We were building systems to run the US Navy's RAMP (Rapid Acquisition of Manufactured Parts) project, and …

There may be more helpful options if you would like to tell us how big the large file is, and what you are going to do with the large file? You don't have to tell us what the large file is.

Go buy a 4.99 1GB USB. You'll never use a floppy again. I only need the occasional floppy when loading up an older Windows image and need to load 3rd party drivers during setup.
