I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 with the 32mb ATI card.. I'm thinking of upgrading to the nVidia GeForce4 4200 64mb card. I know this isn't the best available at this time, but it is for my budget.... Is this a good card? How does it perform with games? If I order a re-furbished one, are the drivers already on the notebook, or do I need to download them?
-Thanks for your time:eek:

Sorry i double posted by accident

you cant upgrade the graphics card on a notebook

I'm afraid you may be incorrect. There are 3 upgrade video cards for a dell inspiron 8500 with a 32mb ATI. check these links out.

These are possible upgrades for the 8500:

This is how you do it

This is where you buy it

Now I may be missing something, but dell gives you the option to replace the 32mb with either the 64 or the 128 ones for 100$ or 200$ respectively, when you originally purchase. I'm just interested in someone who's done the upgrade after purchase, and if the drivers are on the chipset already. Thanks again

thats really cool. usually laptop chips are extremely hard to upgrade

Would a better grfx card cause your laptop to ovrheat though?

Well, the 128 card can overclock and overheat the laptop so it shuts off, though there is a modification for that, in one of the links. But the 64mb card is a option when you build the notebook, my personal 8500 just doesn't have it.

Still, I'm looking to find how the drivers are found?
