Hi. First of all you need to update hijackthis to version 1.98.2. Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. If the site is down, go here. Remove the old version by deleting the file manually. Unzip the new version into the hijackthis folder.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

Reboot normally after doing the above then post a fresh log please.

My bad regarding the F1 - win.ini: load=c:\stentest\postapp.exe line.

Crunchie,
Here is my latest log. No worries about the missed file. Keeps us on our toes.
As I logged on to post this log, I had 2 pop-ups come on. Do I still have some bad stuff here?

Did you boot into Safe Mode to delete this folder and file?
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WEB_REBATES-folder
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\LJPBMZEJ.EXE-file
They're still showing in your log.

You should use the link in crunchie's signature to download spywareblater, it will help prevent reinfections (don't forget to update it).

This one is still showing too:
O2 - BHO: MultimppObj Class - {002EB272-2590-4693-B166-FBD5D9B6FEA6} - C:\WINDOWS\MULTIMPP.DLL
Fix it with HJT then track it down & delete it manually if you can find it.
If you have Adaware, download the VX cleaner plug in for Adaware. Install it, then open Adaware & go to *add-ons* & run the plug-in. If anything is found, select *clean system* & when done, reboot & run Adaware & let it finish the clean-up. Reboot again.

I looked for the web-rebates folder and deleted it. As for the LJPBMZEJ.exe-file, I thought I got that one as well. Will try again on 9/24 in AM. Goen for the day on 9/23

Will do on 9/24
Thanks,

I have completed the lastest tasks outlines above and here is the latest log. I will now complete crunchie's suggestion to add the VX cleaner from adaware.
Thanks,
Firedad

Gents-

I attempted to install the VX cleaner but there is not a "add-ons" button just "plug-ins'".. Is this becasue I have the Free version and the instruction given require the "full" version?
Firedad

No. It must be because you have version 6.181 & the latest version is SE. The plug-in should work for both.
WebRebates is still showing in your log, as is LJPBMZEJ.EXE.

Delete the rebates folder. Open hijackthis & go to config\Misc Tools\Delete a file on reboot & paste in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\LJPBMZEJ.EXE & remove the entry from HJT & reboot. Run HJT again & check the log for that entry. If it's still there Download moveonboot from here & the file(s) you choose will be deleted on reboot.

MoveOnBoot allows you to copy, move or delete files on the next system boot. This comes in very handy, if you need to replace or delete files which are locked by other applications, loaded into memory or cannot be changed until next system boot. You could manually enter a line to the wininit files, but using MoveOnBoot is much simpler, since the program can be integrated into shell - it creates the "Copy/Move/Delete on boot" context menu item.

Go to that file & right click on it & choose delete on reboot. Reboot. Check again.

Here is the latest log.
I tried to paste the above .exe file you wanted me to delete and it said it was not there. I don't see it in here do?
