Thanks in advance

I receive same thing using the address you included so there is a problem with the address itself. However, check this one and see if you get the page you want to see. Note, it does not include "www." Don't type it in, just click on the link below. If that is the correct link then add it to your favorites. I am using the same version of Firefox and had no problem accessing the site below.
http://planet-lab.org/

Yeah..problem is with the link..d latter domain name is working just fine..:-)

Hi Thanks for ur replies. But the problem is not with opening planet-lab website but with firefox. Im not trying to access planet-lab website. Im not able to open any website. For example, if i enter www.gmail.com, its supposed to show "connecting to www.gmail.com in status bar. Instead its showing connecting to "www.planetflow.planet-lab.org" . Hope the problem is clear to u now. Help me please !!

Please Download ATF-Cleaner.exe by Atribune(Windows XP, 2K, 2003 & Vista ONLY)

• You can put ATF-Cleaner on your Desktop for easy access.
RUN ATF-Cleaner.exe.

If you use Firefox browser, do this also:

* Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All from the list.
* Click the Empty Selected button.
* NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, click No at the prompt.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

Reboot the computer.
Then run a new HJT scan and save the log. Post back here with the MBA-M log and the HJT log.

Several things noted here. You are running two anti-virus programs on the machine at the same time, McAfee and AVG 8. The absolute rule is ONE anti-virus on a computer. More than one can lessen protection. One of these MUST be UNINSTALLED immediately. You choose. If McAfee is current, not set to expire soon then keep that one since it is a paid program OR if your AVG 8 is the paid version then you will have to choose. But one MUST BE UNINSTALLED before you go further. Note I say UNINSTALLED, NOT DELETED. You must go through the Uninstall Process for which ever program you choose.

You only ran a Quick Scan with MBA-M.
Instructions are very clear:

* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.

I would like you to run the program again and allow it to Remove All that is found. Save the log for posting back here along with a NEW HJT log.

Note where the infections WERE found in the original MBA-M scan;
C:\Documents and Settings\computer\Start Menu\Programs\BitDownload P2P File sharing should always be considered dangerous. This is not an activity we encourage here, and now you can see why. Discontinue this for your computer's safety and the safety of the computers of others you may correspond with via email and possibly IM programs.
Do you know what the most recent program you downloaded via BitTorrent might be? It could be an earlier one of course but since the problems began when you installed FireFox then what did you install prior to that or just after that?

Now what shows is a LOP infection. When you go to a web site using an hostname, like www.daniweb.com, instead of an IP address, your computer uses a DNS server to resolve the hostname into an IP address like 192.168.1.0. Domain hacks are when the Hijacker changes the DNS servers on your machine to point to their own server, where they can direct you to any site they want.
Where are you located?

Please answer the above questions and complete the FULL scan with MBA-M and post the log back here.

Hi jholland1964

Thanks again for ur reply and suggestions. Yes I have installed 2 antivirus softwares and i never encountered any problem because of that. Also, previously I had a few problems and I sought help in Daniweb which were resolved successfully. Even that time I was not asked to uninstall anyone when the logs were reviewed by Daniweb experts, and so i too thought it is ok to have Mcafee and AVG alone as there is no reduction in system speed as well. If it is certainly necessary to uninstall anyone then I shall do it surely.

Yes it is my mistake that i made a quick scan instead of full scan. I didnt notice that properly and sorry for that. Now Im posting here the latest MBA log and Hijackthis log.

Then I dont know even what Bitdownload is. May be it is a software to download things via torrents. But i never used such a software in this name. I use utorrent only. Do u feel it is the one created the Bitdownload. Now i have uninstalled it. The last thing I tried to download is only a movie and not anyother application. Just before installing Firefox I installed Picasa 3. I would also like to mention here that Firefox is not my default browser. Im able to view all websites via Internet Explorer(Default Browser) though. But not through Firefox. I didnt install anything after Firefox as the moment i installed i tried to view pages using that and i encountered this problem and hence posted here.

The stuffs you explained about DNS server seem to be a little technical which Im not clear about it. Sorry for that. Can u kindly explain me in a little more detailed way. Please let me know what should I do next. Below is the logs from MBA and Hijackthis.

Thanks again.

i too thought it is ok to have Mcafee and AVG alone as there is no reduction in system speed as well.

Reduction in speed is the very least of problems caused by running two anti-virus programs at the same time on the same computer. Though I cannot imagine there has not been at least some loss in speed. Those two anti-virus programs, at the time of the scan had 13 processes running on the system. Remove one of those programs and that would, at the minimum, remove 6 processes running all the time on the computer, maybe more with the various svchosts.exe files probably running too in connection with one or the other or both. Your CPU usage must be enormous.
The problem comes with program conflicts, which can, and very often does, lessen protection rather than increase it. One program might see the other as a threat, and will create a conflict on the boot process...like who goes first?
Or it may just see the other antivirus as a competing application and try to disable one another, or one may find a virus with it's scan process, try to remove it and the other will stop the removal process because it only sees the fact that files on the computer are changing. So the infected object is not removed. You certainly can SCAN with more than one anti-virus program and quite often this is recommended, however, this generally is recommended using an online scanner, like the ESET scanner we recommend in our sticky for instance and your ONE installed anti-virus program.

I use utorrent only. Do u feel it is the one created the Bitdownload.

Yes I do absolutely. µTorrent is a BitTorrent client for Windows. BitTorrent is a Peer-to-peer file sharing protocol. A BitTorrent client is any program that implements the BitTorrent protocol. BitTorrent itself is not illegal—it is the use of it to copy copyrighted material that violates laws in some locations, which is of course a key issue. But one concern with P2P file sharing is, as you have found, the possibility of infection. There were three entries noted in your MBA-M connected with this BitTorrent download, including the one in the registry. One other concern people should look hard at is this; BitTorrent protocol does not offer its users anonymity. It is possible to obtain the IP addresses of all current, and possibly previous, participants in a swarm from the tracker. This may expose users with insecure systems to attacks. So participating in activity like this really opens a lot of doors many who use P2P are really not aware of.

The stuffs you explained about DNS server seem to be a little technical which Im not clear about it. Sorry for that. Can u kindly explain me in a little more detailed way.

This may be an odd analogy, but maybe this will make it clearer:
You must meet friends at a restaurant where you have never been with the address 123 Green St. You call a cab (a server). A cab (server) picks you up. You tell the driver you want to go to the restaurant at 123 Green St. What you don't know is this really isn't the cab (server) you called, but actually a cab (server) that works for another restaurant. The cab (server) takes you to a restaurant, you get out of the cab, don't look at the address because you naturally assume the cab (server) has taken you to the address you wanted. But actually the cab (server) has taken you to the restaurant the cab (server) works for at 132 Green St. You are totally unaware that you have been taken to the wrong restaurant until the cab leaves and your friends don't arrive.
The LOP infection does the same thing...the normal server for your computer has been hijacked by another server to take you to the website IT wants you to go to NOT the one that you want.
This is why I asked you where you were located. The O17 entries in your log can be a sign of a LOP infection, we KNOW you have one on the computer because of the findings of the MBA-M scan. Now it removed the offending files but I need to know your location in case the O17 entry does not point to your provider but to the hack server. This one indicates it is for BSNLNET in New Delhi. Is this your provider?

Hi jholland1964

Its really very informative about what you have explained for my queries. Thanks a lot. I am located in CHENNAI, the capital city of TAMILNADU (INDIA). My service provider is BSNL. So can u please help me getting out of this LOP infection. And let me uninstall Mcafee now and post here the latest log. Thanks

Thanks for your answer. That means the O17 listings in the HJT log are just fine.
Run HJT again and place a check mark next to the following entries if they still remain;

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-CCB0-B130EEDBE97C} - (no file)
O23 - Service: McAfee McShield (McShield) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\Mcshield.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: McAfee Task Manager (McTaskManager) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\VsTskMgr.exe (file missing)

Once you have placed the check marks then click the Fix Checked button. Exit HJT.

Now before we work on Firefox, you need to update your Java program which is out of date. Go HERE download the Offline Install of the new version 6 update 10. Save it to the desktop.
Close your browser. Go to Add/Remove and Uninstall ALL old versions of Java that you find there. Once all are uninstalled then click that java install icon on the desktop to install the newest version. Follow the prompts. Once the install is complete go back to that link I gave you above and on the right side of that page you will see Verify Now. Click there to verify the installation of the newest version was successful.

Reboot the computer. Try Firefox again and see what happens. If you still have the same problem then try these fixes given on the Mozilla website first and see if it makes a difference:

1. Open Firefox. Go to Tools, Clear Private Data and then put check marks in Cookies and Cache. Press the Clear Private Data Now button.
Close Firefox. Re-open. See if that made a difference. If not then continue on with this suggestion:
1. Type about:config in the Location Bar of Firefox
2. Press Enter (you may get a warning that this will void your warranty. Just click the "I'll Be Careful, I promise" button
3. Find the preference name network.http.sendRefererHeader (this is quite a ways down the alphabetical list but it is there.
4. Double click on it. A dialog will appear.
5. Enter 2 into the dialog.
6. Press OK.
If neither of these work then report back and we can try something else.
Judy

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I tried all the above suggestions and none made the firefox work properly. I see no change.

Please suggest me some other solutions.

I had this exact same problem. Try opening internet explorer and going to tools then internet options then go to connections click on Lan settings make sure USE A PROXY SERVER FOR YOUR LAN is NOT selected. That fixed it for me... Also try the same thing in firefox as my problem was with internet explorer and google chrome not firefox. Let me know if that helped!
