Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie and in need of some help. My laptop was running really slowly, with loads of pop-ups all the time so I ran SpyBot Search and Destroy, and "fixed" the issues it came up with. I use Firefox, and also cleared the cache there and all the cookies etc. AVG and SpyBot now both say everything is fine, but laptop is still really slow and when I rebooted, this flashed up:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wadumepo.dll

I'm guessing that's an error to do with me deleting something after running a scan, but how do I get rid of it? And how do I know if I've got rid of everything slowing my laptop down? I don't really know too much about all of this, but am willing to give any good advice a go - any help would be greatly appreciated as I have Finals soon and really really need my laptop to be alive...

Thanks in advance,

Becca

Please do the following:
download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.
Reboot the computer.
Run a new HJT scan and save the log.
Post back with the MBA-M log and the new HJT log.

Thank you again in advance, really really appreciate the help!

Becca

Your Pc was fairly badly infected before the MBAM scan...Checked your HJT log, looks pretty ok, just place a check mark next to the following and reboot..

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\larihisu.dll c:\windows\system32\lofuwogi.dll

Can you please do the following.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\larihisu.dll c:\windows\system32\lofuwogi.dll

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

c:\windows\system32\lofuwogi.dll
c:\windows\system32\larihisu.dll
-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Reboot.

===============

  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
  • Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:
  • http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

==

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

Here is the new Hijack Log after doing what you told me:
