Hi all,

I have been getting a lot of trojans lately which is pissing me off.

Does anyone know if the folder called Application data located in

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\GridSoftDupe needs to be on the computer.

In that bloody Grid Soft folder there was a trojan & I see other .exe files in there & want to just delete the folder.

Any help you can give me would be great.

Thanks

Michelle

Sounds like a LOP infection.

First of all could you click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall 'Window Search', 'Window Searching', 'Lop.com', 'LOP SEARCH', 'Browser Enhancer', or 'Ultimate Browser Enhancer' if listed. You may be given a code to insert, do so and reboot when done. If not listed there, run the Lop Remover from:
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/downloads.htm

Hey Crunchie,

Long time now talk :)

I have another post I typed up w/ your name in it :)

Ok, I searched for all of those & none are there.

Deleting just the file won't do the trick?

Thanks

Michelle

Did you try the LOP remover link? It is better (IMO) to do that first :). There are usually more than the one entry.

Ok, I did that, but how do I know if it worked?

I also DLed HJT b/c when I got a new computer 6 months ago it was lost.

Should I run it & send you the code?

I don't even remember how after all this time LOL

Thanks

That would probably help; make sure you have the latest version of HijackThis (1.99.1).

Close any open browser windows, press the Scan and save log button, and then copy the contents of the log that comes up and paste it here.

Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Reboot when done and post another log please.

Ok, here's what I've done.

I tried to delete all the files *.tmp as I did about 2 wks. ago, but just like 2 wks. ago I couldn't delte a ton of them b/c it says there is a shared violation.

It took me forever to try & delete them several at a time to get to the ones that weren't shared. Is there not another way or to make sure they aren't shared?

Same thing happened with this folder... C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

Here's the log file from the Omega Killers. I'm not sure it did anything...

Ahh, just so you know, I don't use IE unless forced to by some site that hasn't validated their site so I can use it with FF.

When I opened FF, something changed my homepage & NEVER EVER has FF done that to me, I've only had that problem w/ IE, so something I just did did that :(

Here's the new HJT file....

Michelle,

get Opera :).

===============

Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.bxqdtteyylwmnirz.net/KvS...Bx3tGK1TaF3.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ballrule] C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\GRIDSO~1\LINK FAST FLAW.exe

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

When your done, rescan your system and make sure the following isn't present:

N3 - Netscape ... 5CSBWeb_01.src (or) 5CSBWeb_02.src

If it is, then fix that entry again; sometimes it'll take more than one pass. The actual entry is ok, and won't be deleted, it's the java wrapper marked in red that needs to be removed.

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\APPLIC~1\GRIDSO~1

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

:( What's wrong w/ FF????

I don't use IE. The only reason it is opened is b/c some of these bloody programs force it open like ICQ, Word, & some others.

I can't stand it & give people sh*t every time their site isn't compatible with FF, but I know FF still has bugs, like the scrollbar issue on my new forms.

Anyway it looks like the task bar that attached itself to IE is gone <phew> & so is the casio & dating BS icons on my desktop <thank you> & it seems faster, so I hope everything is clean.

I tried DLed some extensions from FF, but they don't seem to have attached themselves the proper area. I'll have to see if there is a setup program in my DLs folder.

Here's the new log file & thank yooooooooooooooooooouuuuuu :)

Michelle

Nothing wrong with FF except for the two new releases this week :D. Opera is simply better .

Hi Crunchie,

Thanks a ton & just so you know, your ie-spyad link isn't working.

Ok back to my puter. I forgot to mention that the weirdest thing started happening a few days ago.

I review people's applications in Word & they have links in them. Now when I click on them, it opens up in IE :( & when I close the IE window, it also closes the file in Word. Do you have any clue what that is all about?

Also I just DLed the spyblaster which I think I had on my computer b4, but it caused me a lot of problems b/c it was blocking too many things that I needed access to.

Can you give me a brief rundown on how to set it up so I can actually use it & not get frustrated :) You must be the expert.

Ok, here's the log & have a great night....

Open spywareblaster and update online. When done just hit the 'enable all Protection' and that's it :). Works for FF too. It should only block files that are recognised as bad.

With Word, I would hazard a guess that regardless of which browser you have chosen as your default, it will open links in IE simply because they are both from M$.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Click Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and uninstall 'Window Search', 'Window Searching', 'Lop.com', 'LOP SEARCH', 'Browser Enhancer', or 'Ultimate Browser Enhancer' if listed. You may be given a code to insert, do so and reboot when done. If not listed there, run the Lop Remover from:

Hi there,

How ya doing?

Spyware Blaster - but it wants me to check off for Active X & tracking cookies. Although I don't want all the ads, you can't surf online without cookies & I can't stand Active X, but some sites require it.

So what should I do?

As for Word, it's not only in word that it only opens in IE. That's what I'm saying & that doesn't explain why the person's file is closing down when I X out of the IE window.

I'm going to do the HJT thing & brb :)

Thanks

Michelle

Spywareblaster does not block all cookies, only tracking cookies. It does not block all active x controls either, just the bad one.

Ok, so I clicked on enable protection after I went in & turned on IE & FF & Xed out of it. Is that ok?

How come I don't have to scan anything?

Btw, those things you want me to uninstall, they are never there, but I ran Loop again.

Here's the new HJT file & thanks :)....

Spywareblaster just enters data into the restricted zones of IE.

Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

===============

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.

Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.

Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.

For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig. Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.

If you have any more problems, post back.

Happy surfing,

crunchie.

Hi Crunchie,

Thanks for working on my baby.

I already have most of what I need, I just don't think they work very well, but let's cross our fingures b/c I have spybot now & spyware blaster.

Have a great day!
