Hi All,

I'm new to this site so please be gentle! I need help!

From yesterday my PC wouldn't allow me to access certain websites which I was allowed to view earlier in the day. I cannot remember making any changes to the system in the intervening time. I've had a look at the various postings and tried a few things such as: remove firewall; check internet settings; LAN settings; proxy server; virus checker; spyware checker; windows updates; altered MTU; cleared dns; ping checked (which was ok). Also tried on Firefox, with same problems. Some sites I cannot get to include ebay and microsoft.

I'm using a wireless network (Netgear)

I'm running out of options to try any suggestions?

System: Win XP (SP2)
AMD 2800+
Wireless router Netgear DG834GTUK
Netgear wireless adapterWG11T

Here is the log file, please help!

Have you checked your hosts file?

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

make sure there are no entries in there that shouldn't be

Next are you sure your DNS server is simply not wokring properly at the moment?

Example DNS can't resolve some Site in California but can Resolve a site in NYC?

If you have an offiste box try changing the DNS to what you are using and see if it resolves if not then try:

START | RUN | cmd {enter}

ipconfig /flushdns

and hit it again

I've checked the hosts and found this, but is this just a standard message and should I be looking elsewhere:

DNS Server - There are about 30 odd sites I am currently trying to access with no success. These sites are related to each other, so does that mean the DNS server is working ( at leasr partially) as I can still access some sites?

How do you change the offsite box?

I've tried the command 'ipconfig /flushdns' with no luck so far.

Thanks for your help. Any other suggestions?

If you have an offsite machine that you can reach then you can go to the IP settings of it and change it to the DNS server you are using.

If it is able to reach these sites then you know its something on your machine.

If it cannot then you know its something with the DNS server.

try changing your dns server to 209.144.50.125 and see if you can hit those sites.

I have just swapped over from my wireless network to my wired network and it now working. As I am not that technical I'm not sure what that tells me other than obviously there is a problem with the wireless Netgear router.

Sounds like you mis configured the wireless section of your router.
