Hello, I'm new to Daniweb. I am more of a web designer, so am not so good with 'technical' computer language. Anyhow, I've been having loads of problems.

Quite some time ago, I had the 'Symantec Email Proxy' problem where 'Scanning Message One of One' kept on popping up, and it kept on sending random e-mails to unknown IPs and what not. So I did a 'SYSTEM RESTORE' to a few days back, and then it started working normally.

Now, again, this problem has occured. I did the 'System Restore' again, and it worked. But then, after one day, the problem occured again! This time, the System Restore didn't work.

Another problem is, on the startup of my computer [only when the internet is connected] I get a Norton Antivirus High Risk Alert, of a virus called 'Hacktool.Proxy'. Does this have anything to do with the Email proxies? I don't know.

I have a lot of data on my computer, that I can't afford to lose. I heard that this can be fixed, and DaniWeb is the most helpful place. Thus, PLEASE help me! I really need to get this fixed as soon as possible without losing any kind of data, if its possible.

Go to add/remove programs and remove:

Viewpoint manager

Run Hijackthis and DO a system scan only. Place a check beside the following and make sure all other windows are closed and click Fix Checked

Killbox and save it to your desktop.

Copy these instructions to Notepad for safe mode.

Restart your computer into safe mode now. (keep tapping F8 on startup)

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the X button after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes.

Note:

It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not
exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
· Install and run
· Click Scanner
· select the "Settings" tab.
· Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Delete".
· Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
· UnSelect "Only if threats were found"
· Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
· When the scan is finished, Set all items to delete
· Click Apply all actions
· Click the Save report button.
· Save the report to your C: Drive
Reboot
Post that log and a new HiJack log
