Going back over the last 10 years of daily computing, it seems that around every 3000- 5000 hours of use my computer (there have been many ) reaches a point where anything it does is considerable slower then when a fresh install of windows occurred. Looking at my hijack log, it is not obvious as to what is causing this system wide slowness. I have removed many viruses, trojans, etc., without much impact on speeding up my machine. Any ideas, or should one just have to expect that every so often the only thing to do is go through the time consuming process of doing a reformat and new install of programs when the slowness factor gets to be to much. This slowness factor is not only loading pages on the internet, but the loading of programs, or just copying and pasting documents from the clipboard. Currently running windows xp with a 3.2 pentium 4 extreme, 2gb ram setup. Have about 3000 hours since my last reformat, with a considerable decrease in speed in the last 250 hours.

Thanks.

My current hijack log.

Your point makes sense on the surface, but not in this specific case. The problem is, over 90% of these programs were all running thousands of hours ago, and did not impact the speed factor at that time. They were all added during the clean install. For example, Tbnote was running from day one. It is a great program. I use it all the time to remind of things to do; it is a post it note system with a built in alarm.

must be the other 10% .lol
go to run /msconfig and run it in diagnostic startup and see how well it runs .
