hello,
My question is ~Is window vista is good version of its family?
As in my opinion its a very bad version of its family,as to install u need a good graphics card and lots of harddisk, lots of ram and i think that it doesn't support to MS DOS also.
i don't have a good knowledge about the window vista so please help me.
as i ask this question due to i analyse some of my friends using the vista and they are not satisfied with this vista family!
IF YOUR ANSWER IS THE VISTA IS BEST THEN PLEASE TELL ME WHY AND IF NOT THEN ALSO GAVE UR ANSWER!!!!

HAPPY COMPUTING!

AND WISHING U,UR FAMILY AND ALL A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!
HAVE A NICE DAY!

>>Is window vista is good version of its family
yes

>>u need a good graphics card and lots of harddisk
Its really cheap now. If you can't affort the few dollars to upgrade then don't install Vista.

>>and i think that it doesn't support to MS DOS also.
No version of Windows since Windoes NT 4.0 has supported MS-DOS. Sure, they all have command windows, but that ain't MS-DOS.

>>some of my friends using the vista and they are not satisfied with this vista family!
There are a lot of games that will not work in Vista, so in that regard I have to agree. XP had the same problem when it first came out, but game manufacturers eventually got around to supporting XP and they will do the same with Vista. I have my computer set up to dual boot XP and Vista so that I can play my favorite games on XP becuse Blizard has no intention of upgrading them.

I agree with Ancient Dragon above me completely.

I also have a dual boot set up on this very machine, and it works well for me. XP for the past, Vista for the future (and most of now).

Now, I have my system specs in my profile. If you check it out, you see that my computer is more than adequate to run vista without any hitches. But most people don't want to buy new hardware and updated software, so they turn around and complain when they try to run vista on a machine that can barely handle XP.

What seems to work best is 2 GB of RAM, at least a 2.0 GHz dual core processor, and any video card with about 256 MB dedicated memory, conservatively. But the more, the better!

For me, Vista works great. It looks great, runs seamlessly, and the user interface (while it took some time to get used to) is more intuitive (for me). My opinion is that Vista is a big step above XP, and it is the best Windows OS to date. *IF* you have the hardware.

As for compatibility issues... Thats just something people need to suck up. If its that much of a problem, you can set up a dual boot, or a virtual machine to run XP at the same time. I actually have both.

Finally, vista is the future. Its not going do die out like ME. So we had all better get used to it ! :)

All the best,

--The Comodore

Agreed with Comodore. I had a very bad opinion of Vista. I was running it on an Athlon 64 2800+ with !Gig RAM and a 7300GT card w/ 256MB. The system crawled while XP flew. However, I just got a new system with a Core2Duo E6550, 4Gigs RAM and the onboard G33 Express GFX chipset (will buy a card later). Vista flies. If you run Vista on an outdated machine or if you skimp on RAM, it's gonna suck. Get some good hardware and you're fine.

engg_mohit420e you obviously have a bad picture in your head of vista try it and see if you like it if not go back to whatever you were using before in my opinion vista is better than xp but that is only my thoughts you have to make up your own mind, yer vista is resource hungry but if you give it what it needs it will work like a dream!

Hi,
Thank u for ur reply. I am completely satisfy with ur answer.
Thanks a lot.
Happy new Year once again!

I've had Vista for about 6 months and I HATE IT. I bougth a new Dell laptop with good specs (and I maxed out memory and got a generous drive to boot) and had Vista factory installed. It has been nothing but trouble. It is slow, unreliable and prone to problems. It constantly updates itself, but nothing seems to improve. It has already used over 40 GB of disk space (and I have VERY LITTLE on this machine except Vista, Office and C# Express). My old XP machine only had a 40 GB drive, and I never filled it up the entire time I used it. I cannot rely on the Vista CD writing software at all. It constantly looses the ability to read and write CDs which it could use the day before. The Help is a joke, but not quite as bad of a joke as the Help for Office 07, which is really pathetic. In short, I wish I had paid EXTRA to get XP instead of Vista. I would be a lot better off now.

I have never been a big fan of the Mac OS-Xuser interface, but when I look at my wife running a five year old Mac which consistently outperforms my new PC, and never causes her any problems, I wonder just how M$ keeps shoving this JUNK down our throats, with no end in site. The Mac adds are right on.

I have not tried Vista on a laptop and my PC has 280Gig hard drive. So I don't have that hd problem either.

I don't use the CD burner that comes with Vista. Instead I use free DVD Decrypter

Same here. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 w/ 4GB RAM and a 2x250GB hard drives. System works beautifully.

i have 2* 500g sata 1 * 200g sata 1 * pata 250g 1 * pata 400g so im fine on space too it runs like a dream!! infact i have about 700gb of free space!

We are still having compatibility issues with our programs in our office, but thankfully I convinced the boss not to tank my old computer. I set it up in an empty office, and it's my go-to machine when things don't work right. Some of the aspects of Vista are great, and once the kinks get worked out, I'm sure I'll love it like I did XP. But for now, it's frustrating dealing with it freezing up, hiding icons from me, etc.

*deep breath* Change is good. Change is good. :)

If we expect Upgrade OS then why not we want to upgrade our Hardware?? Vista needs more hardware because its worth of that wait for the Microsoft Next Big release Windows Vienna( BlackComb) that will change the definition of Operating systems !!
I am Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist ( WIndows Vista) thats why i am fan of Vista i suggest explore the whole vista and m sure you will find it best

Gee, where have I heard that before? I consider an upgrade to be a system which provides more capability that the previous version, does not discontinue any useful capabilities of the previous version, it at least as stable as the previous version, and is at least as easy to use as the previous version. I don't believe Vista meets those requirements very well, and I'm certainly not waiting on the edge of my seat for Microsoft's next great idea.

Thats why i said explore the whole vista give it your valuable time and i am sure you will change your thinking .

Regards

Hey, I love Vista. In fact, I've been tinkering around with Alpha releases of Longhorn as well. You have to understand a new product will have bugs - same as happened with XP when it first came out. That said, I have to agree with fishsqzr when he says that

....an upgrade to be a system which provides more capability that the previous version, does not discontinue any useful capabilities of the previous version, it at least as stable as the previous version, and is at least as easy to use as the previous version.

Let's see how Vista turns out eventually.

well said everyone hated xp when it first came out now everone defends it and love it. Vista is a revolutionary operating system the and one of the main reasons thier are problems is becuase microsoft had to bog it down with large ammounts of code to provide legacy support so no onoe moaned about it not being backwards compatible (like everyone is anyway). Soon vista will be the most stable o/s around and the only choice out thier. Just stick with it!! Oh and if you spend a bit on money on your hardware it will run like a dream.

Personally, Vista is a great os for anyone. It contains advanced and helpful features like aero in premium versions, instant search, sidebar, security up to a really high level, parental controls, and media center in home premium and ultimate. It will be kind of hard to get used to its bad side first (compatibility and new gui), but soon you will love it (like xp when it first came out, and xp now). Remember that vista is a hungry os, and if you feed it, it will give lots of performance in return. just make sure u have a good video card (a shared one will be fine for aero only, but get a dedicated one for media center and hd programs), and lots of ram (2gigs for notebooks, 3-4gigs for desktops, though a gig or a gig and a half would do fine for light to light-medium users.) Remember, all new apps will be designed mainly for vista, so u choose, compatibility issues now, or later? Get vista!!!

Sorry, I've been using Vista nearly six months and I've just learned to ignore it as much as possible. A few things are better, but I've found the system less than stable and less than convenient as well. The Help is pathetic, which doesn't make it easier to learn to use. Part of my problem is I bought Office '07 with it, which has been more of the same, not to mention the great fun I'm having trying to get NET to do what I want using C#. I am an experience user. I find it difficult to find the things I KNOW should be available. I don't have time to worry about all of the nice new features I'll probabaly disable if I come across them. I just want to get my work done. Vista HAS NOT helped.

please give me your pc's serial number and manufacturer so i can find your pc's exact specs so i can see where your pc needs upgrading to handle vista and make it stable.

P.S. Is this preinstalled vista or vista on top of a preinstalled xp.

This a new Dell Inspiron 1720, factory installed Vista with all automatic updates enabled (and God knows that takes up a bit of my time too). If M$ can't update me, I'm sure not going to start passing out personnal information to a total stranger (not to mention the rest of the forum). On a positive note, I have discovered that my Bluetooth mouse now remembers its tracking speed, so something got fixed (somehow) anyway. Of course, it suddenly quit working without waring and I had to reinstall it, but at least once I did that it works better.

Don't get all defensive about Vista. You have your right to love it if you like. I reserve the right not to.
