I Just put a new computer together, well really my dad did all the work, so now I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro. The hard drive already has exsisting files and OS on it so I'm trying to wipe everything and install the new OS (I don't know if that might be causing problems. I started by putting in the boot up floppies for Windows XP Pro to prepare the computer and that went smoothly. Then I start the Windows XP Pro installation from the disc and when that finishes it have the following messages.

"The following value in the .SIF file used by the setup is corrupted or missing."

"Value 0 on the line is section [SourceDisksFiles] with key "SP2.cab."

Then I hit enter to exit that screen and it gives me another message telling me that the corrupt file is coming from "C:Windows root>\system32\hal.dll"

I hope this is enough information. I have tried looking on microsoft's website and other websites to find error information, but I was unsuccessful. Any help you could give me would be great. Thank you.

P.S. Let me know if you need system specs.

Start over ,use the cd to boot to if you can set computers first boot to CDRom in the bios ,and delete partition and create new one and then let it run the setup!

You can find complete installation instructions in this thread:

Are you trying to set up a dual-boot? The HAL error often occurs when doing this.
(http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_haldll_missing.htm and http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000490.htm)

Here's what HAL does:

If you need to get HAL.dll:
