Hello all,
recently i was prompted to remove the file idechndr.sys from the sytem 32 folder. before doing this i followed the instructions and checked the box to restart in safeboot

of course removing the file created problems. after restarting i got the "we're sorry windows did not start properly" message. it gave me the options of

restart in safe mode (3 different ones)
restart in last known good config
restart normally
no matter which option i selected it would always come back to the same page. there was a countdown timer and if i didn't select it would continue the loop on its own

f8 (which i now know i should have used in the first place) had no effect
i tried f12 but it said no boot was found

with f1 i switched to the cd drive as 1st priority for booting. i loaded the original xp disc to restore the missing file(s) which it did.
at restart i got the familiar xp logo and thought things were looking good. unfortunately it started it safemode (thanks to my early flub-up) and i get a dialogue box saying "windows xp setup cannot run under safemode. setup will restart now." if i click ok it restarts and i get the same thing. there are no other options other than clicking ok. my desktop is not shown and i can not get into my computer like normally under safemode because the setup is not complete.

control-alt-delete has no effect either. so my question is how do i get my bleeping computer out of safe mode so the setup can finish?

can anyone please help?

thanks in advance,
dj

Hi and welcome to Daniweb,
I can not understand why you are having the problem with safe mode and I can not offer a solution for that other that a repair/install of windows.

Give it a bit of time, somebody here might have some knowledge of this problem and offer you a solution.

If you decide to repair Windows from your CD Have a look at slipstreaming your OS CD first.

Appreciate the response to my question and I tried following the steps in the link you posted from Doug's Windows page but it still does the same thing. Setup is just about complete but after the restart it can't go any farther because it is in safemode and i still can't get in to uncheck the safeboot option i clicked on earlier.

If i'm understanding the link on slipstreaming I think I would need to get into my computer to attemt this and I am unable to do that right now,

Hopefully someone here will know how to get around this problem.

Hi,
Yes you do need to access a machine to make a slipstreamed CD but it can be another machine, you just need your OS CD and product key.
You could try downloading (on another machine) UBCD, making a Cd and then booting your machine with that and use the utilities to find your problem. (see link in my signature)
