I am running windows xp 2002 home edition service pack 2.
My problem is when I first open my documents to open a file I can double click on it to open yet when I right click on that file to open with another program it doesn't do anything except I get the hour glass. I then have to go to my Task Manager and it says "my documents not responding".
I end the task and go into my documents a second time and I can right click a file and it works.
This has really got me baffled as it just started doing out of the blue.

Try to disable context menu integration features of programs that you have installed. A lot of programs have options to do so. I can give you an example with Winrar which has "Add to archive", "Compress and email". Some of these context menu features may interfere with explorer so I would try to disable them one at a time.
