My router is a DLink DIR 655

So, by "server" did you actually mean your computer? Or are you using another computer as a server?

im not entirely sure how the whole server stuff works,
but it is just my laptop.
my PC is perfectly fine.

*my laptop is running windows 7
*my PC is running XP

Well do you have a server or not??? This is important to get correct as if you are using a server, your problem could well be a setting on it!

what would that be exactly
because im confused on the topic of servers / networks

ok then so its the actual program.

then mine would be Windows Server 2008 R2

i should probably rephrase my problem... apparently i actually have a problem connecting to other servers

Have you check software firewalls and your routers firewall for problems?

Try disabling them all temporarily and see if that helps!

tried that, didnt work.
i should note this was all working fine all up until 2-3 weeks ago

To be honest with you, it may be best to get a networking expert to have a look at it. Networking problems are usually reasonably straight forward to sort if you have the system in front of you but a nightmare to do otherwise!

lol i know, already considering it, just seeing what the internet can do to help atm.

Please don't take any offence at this as none is meant, but getting help on the net is going to be very difficult as you don't know how to accurately describe what setup you have.
Having someone there that knows networking that can tell you exactly what setup you have will be of huge benefit to you for now and in case of any problems you have in the future.

i realize that much, but im not really sure what you mean by "setup"
