Windows 7
My Antivirus program wants me to update to service pack 1 but it downloads and then gets to 48% configured on restart and then hangs up for about a half hour and then restarts and tries again with same results then says "service pack 1 was not installed". I have tried several times with exactly the same results.

What anti virus program are you using? Have you try contacting the anti virus developer or anybody using the same anti virus as you? They might have the problem as well and know how to solve it. What is your anti virus version. Paid or free?

I had the same problem one time.

Solution: Get the ISO file from Microsoft download here
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5842
(remember to select your language if it isn't english)

Burn the iso file to a dvd (use imgburn if you don't have another already)

Or, You can mount the iso file with magicdisc virtual DVD drive

Both magicdisc and imgburn is free software (without shareware nag-screens and limitations). :)
