Hi all.

I keep getting the little yellow shield to install sevearl updates. The Installation status reads like this...

Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and
.NET Framework 2.0 SP2 Security Update for Windows
2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP x86
(KB979909) (update 2 of 8)... failed!

Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update
for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86
(KB982168) (update 3 of 8)... done!
Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server
2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2418241) (update 4 of
8)... done!
Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and
Windows XP x86 (KB2656369) (update 5 of 8)... done!
Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and
Windows XP x86 (KB2572073) (update 6 of 8)... done!
Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and
Windows XP x86 (KB2633880) (update 7 of 8)... done!
Installing Security Update for .NET Framework 2.0
SP2 and 3.5 SP1 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows
XP x86 (KB2518864) (update 8 of 8)... done!

Now, despite it telling me that the latter updates have been installed, when I restart the computer it offers me the same updates, including the ones that failed, and including the ones that it had previously told me were successfully installed.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition

Any help gratefully received.

I am not an expert here but a novice user. I too had similar problem. But I remember, it will throw some error code when it fails. if you search with that error code in the google, it might point you to the microsoft forum, where it would have posted some solution or alternatives or even might suggest some configuration settings, which upon doing might help you proceed with the successful updates.

Do a manual update and install them one by one. That usually sorts the problem.
