The generic host error started poping up on my computer a few days ago, I had get a dial up model (used, no drivers) and install. That was the first time I got on this computer with a dial up modem. I worked for like an hour, surfing the net. Then about that time the error showed up. I rebooted, as it disabled my internet and would not show the box to disconnect. Since then it happends at odd times, after about 1 hour online. Some times right on reboot. This is a fresh copy of Xp.

Please Help!

Thanks
Shylor

U noted that this is a fresh copy of XP but what ver. some probs. of this nature were fixed in sp2.
this could also be evidence of hacker activity, check you firewall and AV software.
install ALL updates not just those that might apply.

I ran 2 virus scanners (AVG Free and Nod32), both came up blank. I am running dial-up on a generic modem (using windows drivers, bought it for $5). Now What?

Thanks

I see that the hijackthis log shows that you have SP2, so I guess we can discount that being the culprit. I had to laugh, I tried to use the help link that was provided in the log...it didn't work.

I did a little digging around and found this, I hope it helps.
