I have windows xp home. I am using aol 9.0VR dialup. I make online memorials. When I go to upload a photo The blue bar fills like it is being loaded and then I get a dns error page..like I am not online. It will then error out all of my open web pages and the error message will appear in any new page I try to open. i have to restart aol to fix this.

It says the page can not be displayed and I need to adjust my browser settings. I have checked my ssl 2.0, ssl 3.0, tls 1.0 settings and cannot find the checkbox for my pct 1.0 setting.

I do not have a virus or any other malware problems. I have cleaned out my cache, fixed my registry, etc. and I can not get this problem to go away. AOl says it's a microsoft problem. Microsoft says it's an aol problem...can anyone please help me with this?

It seems you are losing your internet connection all together. Have you noticed any static on your phone lines or have you added any new phones or answering machines. If the line is fine then i would run a spyware scan. Download Hijackthis to your desktop, run a scan and post the scan log here for me to take a look at.

I have not added any new phones nor have I had any static on my lines. Here is my log:

When I did a Windows IP configuration check(I believe it was called) it said that

"ethernet adapter local area connection:

media state........:media disconnected"

someone else told me this may be the problem but never got back to me definitely or told me what to do to fix it.

I have also tried shutting off all of my firewalls and attempting it just to see if it was an improperly configured firewall and still same results.

I have literally been told to download just about every spyware adware remover known to man as well as virus scans and registry fixers by various ppl. If it is malware it's a tough one. Thanks for your help.

this DNS error is mainly base on your connection timing out. maybe from low resources, winsock error or your tcp/ip settings need to be configured over. yo need to change the time to live(TTL) for your dialup and ensure dns is enable for your dial up. if these fail reinstall the winsock file locaed in the windows/system32 directory. you might want to also chech the resources that you have running while browsing, how much mem compare to how many programs runnung.

your local area network will not be an issue when you are using dial up. the media disconn is reffering to local area network. which you are not using..

Yeah it is a DNS problem but the DNS is timing out because he seems to lose his connection all together. He says once he gets the error he has to reconnect to get it working again.

I have 5 things for you to try..

1. DNS Server
The only thing unusual thing i see in your hijackthis log is that you have a static dns server set.. If you do not use you LAN connection or are sure you dont need this DNS server then remove it with hijackthis. This could be the cause of your whole problem.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F425979B-47B3-482A-B34A-74773D73B5D9}: NameServer = 205.188.146.145

2. Proxy Server
In internet explorer click tools>>internet options then click on the connections tab and then the lan settings button and check if "use a proxy server for.." is checked. If so uncheck it. Sometimes spyware uses this and even removing the spyware leaves this setting still set.

3. Repair Winsock
Another thing you could try it to totally repair winsock with this little utility:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

4. Hosts File
Open hijackthis click "none of the above, just start the program"
Click "config"
Click "misc tools"
Click "open hosts file manager"
Then click "open in notepad" and post the contents of the file back here.

5. Reinstall AOL if you havent done so yet.
