A while back my work computer's built-in network card went out on me, so we bought a Linksys Etherfast PCI adapter and my computer worked fine for a while.
A few weeks later I lost network and internet connection, so I imported winsock & winsock 2 from another computer with same OS (XP Pro) which allowed me to get back on the network and internet.
Now every 2 hours like clockwork I get I get disconnect and a message (network cable is unplugged) and then comes back on approximately 3-5 seconds later with another message (local area connection 6 is now connected).
Can anyone help, here is my hijack this log, hope it helps

What's on the other end of your nework cable? A switch or DSL router or what? It'd probably more likely to be what you are connecting to that is dropping the connection than your simple network card...

I've had trouble with over-heating switches and routers before that have exhibited this problem.

Geoff.

That would seem to make sense. I asked my co-workers if they had the same problem and sure enough they did.

Is there a way test switch and router without replacing them.

Fraid not .. at least not that I can think of. If it's a problem at work, then best to raise a fault with your company's support desk as they might already being investingating it.

Geoff

I kind of anticipated you were going to say that, so raised up a stink with my supervisor. It's in there hands now.

Thanks for the reply.

Just letting everyone know I fixed my networking problem. I was able to find the the driver for my built-in NIC and reinstalled it. Now everything working fine, network and all.

For some reason the Linksys Etherfast PCI adapter (or driver it came with) we bought was the source of conflict.

Thanks again to geoff.ainger for your input.

Well I'm back I thought the problem was resolved, but it's back.

It's only my computer that is showing message (network cable is unplugged).
