I am decent with DNS, although I haven't had to setup a secondary DNS server on a remote server before, so wanted to inquire here before attempting this...

We have a dns server right now, and have a server in a completely different location (city) that we want to setup as a secondary dns server. Both servers are Windows Server 2003. What would be the best approach for this?

Thanks.

Are both servers on the same domain? Do you have a VPN connection between the two offices?

If both the servers are on similar domains there would be no need to setup a secondary DNS server however, in other case you will have to do it.

Actually, it is recommended that you have one DNS server at each location. DNS requests across a VPN connection are not always reliable and do result in timeouts, depending on you bandwidth.
