Am completing a website and can't get the final piece to work which is the search engine. Have tried implementing Google's OnTheFly script which works up pop up a new window but only puts out "The resource you have requested could not be found." each and everytime. This was the script they said to paste in:

<!-- Use of this code assumes agreement with the Google Custom Search Terms of Service. -->
<!-- The terms of service are available at http://www.google.com/cse/docs/tos.html -->
<form name="cse" id="searchForm" method="post" action="http://www.google.com/cse">
<input type="hidden" name="cref" value="" />
<input type="hidden" name="ie" value="utf-8" />
<input type="hidden" name="hl" value="" />
<input name="q" type="text" size="30" />
<input type="submit" name="sa" value="Search" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/cse/tools/onthefly?form=searchForm&lang="></script>
</form>

This is my first time ever trying this. can someone help?

Thanks for looking mate...just reminded me that I should've looked at other browsers...it works fine using all other browsers except IE. (not my personal choice but what they use at their company)

Anyway around that??

hmmm IE is a bitch! unfortunately I think about 60% of people still use it, I had a looka round and found a few discussions on the topic there doesn't seem to be a fix. Something to do with Google putting hash parametres around the query so they don't get hit by spam.... sorry I couldn't be more help mate

That figures...the one thing I do partially right won't work with the thing people use most! such is life. Perhaps I should try something else eh?
Cheers mate!

Do you need to ahve a Google search feature? why not just a search or link to a search?
Your site looks like a wordpress site but isn't.. why not migrate it over to Wordpress?

Oh i don't have to have a Google search, i just thought it would be functional. This is my first attempt at trying it. All i basically wanted to do was implement a plain ol' search box. This is turning into a bigger project than I had envisioned.
Have never used Wordpress...would be something to look into I am sure.

fair enough, the reason I asked was because with wordpress you find a template you like and they all come with a search widget. It's just drop and drag and you can login and edit the content from anywhere. Pretty cool stuff really.
Well good luck with your project mate

well thats handy for future projects for sure! thanks for the tip.
i guess i will just have to search around for other script to use instead of google's that will work with all browser types. *headache* or maybe i should scrap it and go with a sitemap?? or is that stupid? the site overall isnt that big. (78 pages)

Thats a tricky call mate, I use the search feature in some sites and don't in others and use a category drop down list instead, i'm not sure what you mean by the sitemap? you should always create a sitemap for the search engines to find. Do you mena just link to the sitemap for people to browse through?

Category dropdown? oh man, now you are roaming in a totally different pasture. i know alot of community sites here in Australia just do simple "sitemaps" on their websites instead of search engines since they are so small. ie:
http://www.newfarmneighbourhood.org/site_map.htm
(mind you mine would look alot better!)

thats funny... here uin Australia and using the new farm exampkle... I live in New Farm, Australia :)

Yes I understand that the community based wbsites don't generally conform to the innovations of Good site usability but when someone does it has a big impact. especially if you want people to talk about your webdesign skills. Here's an example of a great community website, sad thing is they spend $200k on this and I originally knocked it back. http://www.visitscenicrim.com.au/ they did fly people in take photots and rent a helicopter for the week :)

but see on the left, the hover categories. They make it really simple to get where you want.

thats hysterical. my friend works for new farm neighbourhood centre. small world.
the community centre i built this for doesnt have alot of money to spend on me. so i have to do what i can with what i got.
am not a fan myself of hover categories...have bad eyes and can barely see them.
but i see they have a simple search button that works...hhmmppff.

Thanks to share us i really like to watch it here.... !!
