Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /hsphere/local/home/lupahkha/lppros.com/membership/add.php on line 41

and on line 41 this is the code

VALUES ('".$_POST."', '".$_POST."')";

and this is the whole code

<?php
// Connects to your Database
mysql_connect("your.hostaddress.com", "username", "password") or die(mysql_error());
mysql_select_db("Database_Name") or die(mysql_error());

//This code runs if the form has been submitted
if (isset($_POST)) {

//This makes sure they did not leave any fields blank
if (!$_POST | !$_POST | !$_POST ) {
die('You did not complete all of the required fields');
}

// checks if the username is in use
if (!get_magic_quotes_gpc()) {
$_POST = addslashes($_POST);
}
$usercheck = $_POST;
$check = mysql_query("SELECT username FROM users WHERE username = '$usercheck'")
or die(mysql_error());
$check2 = mysql_num_rows($check);

//if the name exists it gives an error
if ($check2 != 0) {
die('Sorry, the username '.$_POST.' is already in use.');
}

// this makes sure both passwords entered match
if ($_POST != $_POST) {
die('Your passwords did not match. ');
}

// here we encrypt the password and add slashes if needed
$_POST = md5($_POST);
if (!get_magic_quotes_gpc()) {
$_POST = addslashes($_POST);
$_POST = addslashes($_POST);
}

// now we insert it into the database $insert = "INSERT INTO users (username, password)
VALUES ('".$_POST."', '".$_POST."')";
$add_member = mysql_query($insert);
?>

<!-- Now we let them know if their registration was successful -->
<h1>Registered</h1>
<p>Thank you, you have registered - you may now login[/url].</p>
<?php
}
else
{
?>

<!-- This is what they see before they have registered -->
<form action="<?php echo $_SERVER; ?>" method="post">
<table border="0">
<tr><td>Username:</td><td>
<input type="text" name="username" maxlength="60">
</td></tr>
<tr><td>Password:</td><td>
<input type="password" name="pass" maxlength="10">
</td></tr>
<tr><td>Confirm Password:</td><td>
<input type="password" name="pass2" maxlength="10">
</td></tr>
<tr><th colspan=2><input type="submit" name="submit" value="Register"></th></tr> </table>
</form>

<?php
}
?>

can anyone help??

Perhaps VALUES ('".$_POST['username']."', '".$_POST['pass']."')"; should be: VALUES (\'$username\', \'$password\')"; Where $username = $_POST['username'] and $password=['password'] Sometimes when you try to do too much with a single line of code, you run in to problems.

Also, please wrap your code in [ code ] and [ /code ] tags. It helps those who read your posts tremendously.

You need to add a linebreak on the line 40 I believe:

// now we insert it into the database $insert = "INSERT INTO users (username, password)

Change it to:

// now we insert it into the database
$insert = "INSERT INTO users (username, password)

You may need to append the next line to it also:

// now we insert it into the database
$insert = "INSERT INTO users (username, password) VALUES ('".$_POST['username']."', '".$_POST['pass']."')";

As you had it the opening " was being commented out, thus the mismatching double quotes...

Hello, U won't believe it.
The $insert variable is a comment, just press enter after the word database and you are good to go. as in:
before

// now we insert it into the database $insert = "INSERT INTO users (username, password)
VALUES ('".$_POST['username']."', '".$_POST['pass']."')";
$add_member = mysql_query($insert);
?>

after:

// now we insert it into the database
$insert = "INSERT INTO users (username, password)
VALUES ('".$_POST['username']."', '".$_POST['pass']."')";
$add_member = mysql_query($insert);
?>

good day
