In response to a letter signed by 40 state attorneys general, the popular classified ad site [URL="http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites"]Craigslist[/URL] has taken additional steps to keep sex workers from using its site. Left unsaid, though, is that Craigslist had little choice, unless it wished to risk being made a party to illegal activity. The 40 attorneys general had written Craiglist earlier this year, asking the company to deal with the issue of people posting ads for prostitution on the site. Today the US House of Representatives has approved a new restriction on online gambling. This will in effect make gambling online as severe as owning child pornography. Both will be classified as a Class C Felony. This is a 12 billion dollar industry, with a good chunk (> 30%) of users based out of the USA. The House voted 317-93 for the bill, which will allow officials and ISP’s to setup blocks of internet gambling sites.
