Unable to boot desktop + loud fan noise

My desktop machine suddenly has stopped. I stepped away and when I RETURNED, my mouse did not work so I pushed the power button to turn off the machine. When I tried to start again, I got a blank screen and the fan is running extremely fast. I don't know what to do. Otherwise the machine was running fine, but slow and the HD is only about 4 months old.

What do you suggest?

did you try restarting your computer? You might have a sleep mode where you computer temporarily freezes before coming back on...

yes, several times. blank screen and fan runs very fast and loud like something is overheated although the machine is out in the open. I even tried another monitor.

I had this happen to me a while back. It turned out to be a burned out video card. I got a new one a it worked. Sorry i couldn't have been more helpful.
