ambient v92 external 56k modem will not operate after filling in all boxes in the config section. I am a classic newbie, but not totally in the dark as far as computers are concerned. Is there someone out there that could offer the required fix, or should I just buy an official boxed set with manual?.

Mandrake users are reporting problems with this in the 2.6 kernel...is that what you are using? There is an official workaround posted on the bug listing. I'd google the buglist for it...
