linux on eeepc 4g

I need good advice on simple small linux to use on eeepc 4g early asus machine

I have used xp, linux natty nahwal and others but all use too much resources and I want to completly start again (including mem card)
any easy suggestions very welcome and how to do it easily?
since no external CD,
I could use bootable memstick but need link to make it bootable and linux distro to follow!!

Ubuntu makes a 'netbook' edition for download. http://www.ubuntu.com/ubuntu HAve you tried that?


Also running the install iso from a usb stick is very easy. I do it all the time. I can't remember the last time I burnt an ISO to a CD.
