I have an XP system with Microsoft Office installed. My wife can access the various programs in Office in her user account, but I cannot access these programs in my account.

Is this a setting that needs to be changed in the user account screen? Or in the Office Programs itself? Do I need to uninstall and then reinstall?

Your user is with administrator rights? If yes i think you need to reinstall office. If not make one with administrator rights.
