When using Excel's "save as web page" function, the web pages are not displayed in nice columns with the latest Netscape and Firefox browsers. All of the data are scrunched to the left side of the screen.

The bug is actually that Excel makes a web page which is not fully compatible with the latest standards. Some browsers can display these pages, others can't. The trouble seems to be related to data compression on the host computer, since the browser plays the file correctly when the file is on the browser's own computer.

The workaround:

Insert a blank "dummy" column before each column which actually contains data. Every other column (A, C, E, ...) will be a dummy column. Make the dummy column .08 or .17 pixels wide. Now all browsers display the spreadsheet saved as a web page properly.
