when connecting computers in a private network, do you need a router? or all you need is a switch?

get a router so you can network the computer together and get to the internet at the same time. if you only need the network then don't connect anything to the WAN or Internet port on the router. you also get DHCP on the router, which mean your dont have to set static IP on the computers or wait for all of them to get a 169.x.x.x IP before they could all talk to each other.

Trust me, a router's what you need whether it's just networking that you need or internet access or both.
