How can I connect a printer to a laptop using a crossover network cable?

Hope someone can help:

What do I need to set to be able to connect an HP4100n printer to an XP laptop using a crossover cable?

Any advise would be most helpful!!

Is the printer a serial or USB or IEEE488?

Its gonna be connected via the jetdirect network card, so I assume thats the IEEE488 connection.

Hello,

I don't know what IEEE488 is, but if you are using a JetDirect (internal or external) it is going to want to be programmed properly.

I would avoid the crossover cable and get the $30 hub or whatnot to wire it properly on a small network. Of course, then properly program the JD and the computer so they have the proper protocols installed and can work with each other.
