Restoring computer to new performance??

I am trying to get my computer to run fast again like when purchased new, the computer starts up and takes forever! Its like 2 yrs old but its a 2g of ram and 160gb harddrive. I tried using the restoration disk and reloading all programs. I thought this wiped out all files and cookies on the computer?? What do I have to do to make this run like new again??? or is it just old and time to buy a new one?? need some help here! thanks!!!!!

When you reloaded the OS, did you reformat and then reinstall or did you just install over the existing installation? For top performance, you should regormat and reinstall the OS. Also install the latest drivers for all your hardware.

Yes, you need to reformat -- and that means you should back up your data first.
