What are the easy way to communicating friends using computer ?I am much confused which software should be used?

I have been looking for the communicating service and I found this one {http://www.instantventrilo.com/} I am not sure about the quality or the origin of their offering. Has anyone have looked into this before? If you have any other options you know are worth the time to check out, please post them here. Thanks!

One way is instant messaging. Install Pidgin. Open source and works well: http://www.pidgin.im/
