New to C++

I am a brand new programmer attempting to teach myself C++. I understand that it is a rather complex language to begin with but I also understand it to be the most useful in the long run and one of the best building blocks for learning other languages. With that being said, I would like some recommendations on the best books out there for teaching this programming language. I intend to use Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express.

this is the first lesson, then it's just to keep going on, there's a lot of tutorials made by this guy.

Please note, this book is very basic, when you finish it, you won't be a code.guru; but you'll be confident enough in the language to move on to many new things :)

Ive only ever used one book with c++

its dirt cheap & covers most topics. I only use it for reference though, i think you can only really learn c++ properly by messing around with it. :)

The Complete Reference: C++ (from Herb Schildt) is also a superb book !!
