I checked over the net for other threads before posting this here. To make sure that I couldn't resolve the problem with a little research myself.

My current problem is that I am locked out of my desktop and unable to change it in anyway. Recently had a virus that Windows Live One care removed from the computer, which had also had me locked out of my task manager as well.

I ran Hijack this and here is the log:

Hope you can help me out, I am still locked out of my active desktop even after Malwarebytes.

Thanks again

Can you please do the following.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

O2 - BHO: (no name) - MRI_DISABLED - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: MRI_DISABLED - C:\WINDOWS\

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Run Combofix ONCE only!!

I am currently running Windows live one care, and can't figure out a way to disable it enough to allow Combofix to run cleanly. I looked it through the net for a full disable but couldn't find it. Mind me a bit more help? Even when I thought it was disabled it still tried to block out combofix.

Go into Task Manager and stop it running from there. Check in services and stop it there too, if found.

Hey, sorry about the hold up, I had to travel out of town for business for a couple days so I was away from the computer.

To get Windows Live one care to completely disable I had to uninstall it then ran Combofix as requested.

Here is the log for Combofix:

Let me know what you think, and if you see anything that could still be effecting my computer. Also wanted to ask you what anti-Virus/Spam/Malware program you thought were is best for overall protection. Thanks for the help again and talk soon.

Logs are clean now. Combofix took a few out.
I noticed Smitfraudfix in the log. Why did you run that? If it is run on an uninfected pc, it can cause the problem you are having.

I ran that before I came here in search of help. It did help to correct one of my problems of being locked out of my task manager. Thanks for all your help. Any suggestions for anti spyware, malware,viruses programs? Would it be smart occasionally post a HJT log here in the forums for check ups?

Is the problem fixed now?
