Hi,
My win98 lost its add/remove list. Whenever I got Control Panel => Add/Remove Programs, the expected window opens, but it empty.
All installed programs function flawless, but I can't uninstall any of them.
Is there a way to revive the list?

Welcome to Daniweb :)

Lets try a system restore and see if that works for you.

1) Boot up your computer and hold F8 until a menu comes up.
2) Select option 5 (Command Prompt)
3) Type this @ the C:\ Prompt: scanreg/restore
4) Restore an earlier registry.

This fixs many things and may fix this :)

Good luck!

If that doesn't work, try this.

Open Start>Run.

Type in appwiz.cpl What comes up?

Hi,
The procedure suggested by you is, following MS, a way to deal with "Add/Remove Programs Icon or Tabs Missing". In my case, the icon exists, but the list is empty.

So neither of our ideas worked??

Very disturbing :(

I hope we can help ya!!

Take care

Dude,
Your sugestion led to a solution of my problem, but (ahah!), the cost was quite high.
Let me explain:
1. the scanreg/restore instruction showed 4 settings.
2. I expected one of these settings to be my current setting.
3. I checked all 4 settings, and all were quite old.
4. I hoped that my original setting is available for reconstruction, which proved wrong.
5. as a result, I'm in the process of reinstalling and reconfiguring many programs.
Thanks anyway.

Sorry we couldn't help.

But I'm happy ya got it all figured out. :)

4. I hoped that my original setting is available for reconstruction, which proved wrong.

It should have been still there.....

And im sorry i forgot to mention you might have to re-install programs if you go back too far. (As thier settings arent in the reg.) -- I gues i figured you would only be going back 1 or 2 days.

Im glad ya got it figured out though :)
