Another black screen issue...

Hello,
I had been having some monitor distortion issues on my Dell XPS m1210 so yesterday I downloaded the nVidia GeForce Go 7400 from the Dell support website to see if that would fix it. Now I have even bigger issues. Upon restarting, I was left with a black screen and am not able to do anything. No Dell screen to try launching the F8 or F12 tools. The hard drive light is on and the notebook sounds ok but the screen is blank.

I tried to get to the diagnostic tools by using the CD and no luck that route either. I also read that I could try reinstalling Vista. Is that my only other option at this point?

Any other suggestions?

my question is i noticed that the memory clock on the XFX card is 900Mhz, however the HiS has 3600Mhz memory clock. I've been trying to do some research on this but haven't been able to find my answer. I read something about actual clock speed vs ?? (i forgot what it was called) clock speed. and that your actual speed is half of the reported?
If anyone could help clear this up for me I would greatly appreciate it,
also any advice on which one to get would be appreciated too.

special DVI port in it's pack. Are there any other Graphic Card which can do the same? I mean
If any ATI or whatelse does so,Please leave a reply with a complete expalnation about that Graphic Card.

Laptop screen flickered black and white while shutting down

While shutting down my laptop before going to bed last night (technically this morning, heh), after I had hit Start then Shut Down, before the window (or whatever it's called) came up asking if I wanted to restart, shut down, or stand by, my monitor started flickering black, then it went back to normal, then it sloooowly faded to white, then back to normal, then flickered black again, and repeated like that--black, normal, white, normal--until the unit was shut down. While the screen was fading to white (seemed to be one pixel at a time, unlike the black which was a very quick flicker, but sometimes lasting 2-3 seconds) I could not move the mouse or do anything else until it "darkened" back to normal. Except for this monitor snafu, the system shut down normally. Also, when starting it up yesterday, before Windows even loaded the monitor started fading white and back to normal again, back and forth like that, and I was able to get to the login screen and log in, but it kept whiting out and I had to shut it down and start over again (no problems the second time). I haven't had any problems with it yet today (knock wood), but I've googled and I've come across people who have either the flickering or the fading-to-white screen, but not both. Anyone know what the problem could be? I hope my monitor isn't dying, I can't afford a new one. Oh, and the fading-to-white thing also happened to me about a year ago, but it went away on its own after a few weeks, and just came back again yesterday after about 12-14 months.

Thin vertical line in IBM ThinkPad R51

Hello friends,
I am having IBM ThinkPad R51, around 4 years old. The system is working fine. Recently it started showing single thin line. After some days another line start appearing.
I shown the system to laptop engineer. He suggested me to replace entire screen.

Is this really the problem of LCD screen or some other problem? Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Hi, Perhaps someone out there could help me on this matter. This is a probelm that is driving me absoutely crazy. I would appreciate a
second or perhaps third opinion on the matter.

I have a HP 511 Tower, Windows XP Pro, HP monitor v50. For some reason, my monitor flicks on a black screen whenever I log off the
internet. I also can't seem to put it to medium 16 bits, when I do this and log on to the internet, It flips back to low 8 bit setting. As a result of this, The colors look garbled and weird on the screen. I have tried to go Medium setting when I am on the internet, but the computer flicks on and off like crazy so I have to log off the internet and start over again.I went and asked a person that is very knowledgable about computers about this probelm. I ended up updating the driver for intel graphics (82810E version). (I also noticed at the time that I had an another version of intel graphics on my properties (82810-DC-100) that was not running properly.) After installing this program, I refreshed the computer and set the settings twice (Safe mode and non safe mode). I still had the probelm afterwards. I asked him if there anything else I could do and he told me since I have a small monitor and it was considered a dinosaur by IT professionals, I should set the screen refresh rate at 75 or lower and that I should also think about upgrading to a new monitor (17" or higher). Since I had a old 17" monitor (HP M70) in my garage, I decided to try that and see how that went. Still the same probelm, but I did notice something: If I kept my settings at low 8 bits, then I did not see the black screen when it refreshed after I logged off the internet.

My question is this: Is it time for me to get a new monitor? If it's not a monitor issue, then please suggest any additional steps to
correct this PITA.

for some reason i am unable to view the bios on the screen so that if i want to change boot sequence but i can not see the screen, i cant even see the advanced start up options screen...

Ok so i log on under my user name and all i see is the pointer after a few minutes my screen saver pops up clearly. I move the mouse and its just black! I cant see anything. I try logging in to my guest and everything is there i see everything. Its fine. Anyone know what it could be. I have lots of pictures i dont want to lose in there. Help??

Fujitsu-Siemens Black Laptop Screen

Hi,

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M1437G series Laptop and a few days ago while lying in bed my wife hit her head o the side of the laptop, near the graphics card. Since then, my sceen continues to go black after/during loading up.

Also, when it does load up the screen is only 75% full, and the text is really large. I've re-booted it many times and it still happens.

However, when I hit/press doen hard on the area where she hit her head - on one occasion it fixed the problem but this only lasted a few minutes before it went black again.

I'm not sure if its the graphics card, fan or anything else.

Please help!!!

hey all,
we recently bought LG L1510SF and i think i'm having a hard time adjusting its display. it says that it is in 1024 x 768 but i think the screen is still large and also, since i'm using vista, the aero function seems to be not working. i tried to adjust it through the automatic selection button but to no good i'm still trapped with the settings. i am also thinking that maybe my video card is disabled whenever the monitor is on. please help me guys and thank you in advance. btw, i'm using ATI radeon 3200 graphics, vista ultimate and LG L1510SF is a touchscreen monitor.

hey guys i have a problem with a game of mine...farcry....the problem is that whenever i play the game the graphics gets messed up and the screen goes white though im still playing the game....ie, the game doesnt hang at all.

I have Sony laptop VGN FE550G
The screen had a slight flickering problem that would go away after the computer was on for several minutes.
Now the screen will flash an image upon start up and then go blank. I use the super video output and can have normal output to a TV. If i use the switching key from TV to LCD an image will flash on computer LCD screen and go away. The image is consistent and stable when displayed on TV,
I have the most current video card driver installed for the intel 945 chipset family.

SPDIF Connector for DVI to HDMI Audio

I have a Packard Bell X2416 with a Denver 11 motherboard and an Nvidia 9600GT graphics card. I have linked the card up to a HDTV via a DVI to HDMI connector and am trying to get an internal SPDIF connector to do the audio passthrough.

The problem is that all the connectors available are 2 pin to 2 pin, whereas the SPDIF Out on my mobo is 4 pin. I understand that of the 4 pins, I only need to connect up the SPDIF signal and Ground pins. However, I have no way of knowing which of te 4 pins these are and suspect it could cause problems to start trying different permutations.

Does anyone have any idea what the layout is on a Denver 11 SPDIF Out connector. Or alternatively, whether there is a standard layout? There does not seem to be a manual I can download.

I recently had to replace my mobo and now my Radeon X 800 PCI-e works fine while in Windows XP or surfing, or reading emails, etc. but as soon as I open up a game software (doesn't seem to matter which one) or my DVD player the screen goes garbled and even sometimes hangs the computer, I have to reboot to fix the issue. Yet I don't seem to have any problems streaming video over the internet. Anybody have any suggestions??

I've updated everydriver I can think of, I have run dxdiag and everything seems to be working fine.

Green screen checkering

I have a Dell Latitude D600 I have green horizontal checkering. As I scroll on a page it goes completely green. While still being readable.
At start up a bunch of unreadable gibberish comes up in black & white. When I try Safe mode the screen is unreadable.
This problem is still there when I plug into another monitor.

This started I believe after my son clicked on an alert message that popped up on the screen.

Flat screen monitor on the blink

This is a power supply problem I have had on many TVs
To get it started, first week you just unplug and replug
Next week you do that 15 times
Week after it needs the hair drier
I kept a Sony tv running 5 years like that

So what is it?
Electrolytic caps gone dry
Clearly the different supply volts are not "waking up" in the correct sequence

What is the sequence?
What is the cure

When I try to leave everything on, the computer sleep mode lasts but 2 minutes!
If I leave my computer on is if better the hard drive not be running?
How can I show just enough on-screen to keep the monitor alive?

After updating ( somewhat) my video capabilities to a Ge force 6200 le graphic card ( bought brand new, AGP 526 mb in September of 2009. Me not expecting too much more than some, have recently run across a problem playing RPG video games that I had no problem playing with my Ge force 2 MX400..

Now don't get me wrong I am a 62 year old non-extreme gamer.. I like to play older dungeon basher RPGs..

When I first installed this card I was impressed with the quality of the video presentation but now three weeks into it I find my machine freezing and getting an infinite loop error while playing the same video games???. Along with this my monitor has started flashing on and off during 'normal' web surfing.. This latter problem re: surfing seems to be accompanied with a collapse of horizontal text lines in the current web page.. I started to run into this on a previous machine that I was using and thus changed monitors. When the recent problems occurred I swapped out several monitors albeit they are of similar vintage but nerveless work yet now they are exhibiting the same problems leading me to seek alternate solutions.

If anyone is willing to assist me I can post/generate a report of my system. I just thought it unnecessary to take up bandwidth here at this time.

I consider my myself an intermediate to better than average self taught PC user/techy/older guy if that helps..:)

If any "gamer nuts" living in Dad's basement feel the need to reply about 'The Best Video Card Out There' please don't. I am seeking PC knowledge not marketing..:)

White lines on laptop LCD display

Hi everyone!

I'm hoping that someone might be able to provide me with a few ideas on what might be wrong with my LCD laptop display.

(The laptop is reasonably aged, however, a couple of months ago, I replaced the LCD panel as the CCFL backlight stopped working)

When I turn on my laptop, I get thin white lines running horizontally across the screen, about a third of the way up.

I am still able to use and click on everything (in the area of the white lines), but trying to read is virtually impossible.

It doesn't appear the problem is getting worse.

I plugged an external monitor into my laptop, and now lines appear there.

I pulled the casing off the laptop, to get a look at the back of the LCD panel (just in case the plugs weren't sitting right)... but it seems that the plugs are seated correctly.

Any ideas on what the frak could be causing this? (The display worked perfectly up until a few days ago when the lines appeared. Also of note is that only the lines sometimes "flicker")

Any help would be great!

Poor performance by computer

I'm not a gamer, I *only* play a 9 year old game, Counter Strike 1.6. But lately, it's been performing very poorly.
Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz
Nvidia 7300LE 256MB
1 GB DDR2 RAM

I know the stats are terrible, but they're good enough for a TEN year old game. I'd expect a minimum 40FPS, but I dont get that.
I used Fraps for benchmarking.

Screen Went Black

Hi.

While I was using my Gateway, my monitor screen went black. I ruled out a problem with monitor. Works fine with other computers.
Next , test was to turn off unit and re- boot. The unit lights lights up.
lights on motherboard lit. Wife light blinks properly. Fans run. This is a Gateway tower, model835GM. Nice machine. 2.6GH intel Duo Core 820 processor. The bios seems to be working because it beeps once when powering up unit. Installed in the unit is a NVIDIA video board. This video card worked when installed for a year or more after installation. The Monitor shows no signal when Monitor is connected to either the NVIDIA video card or the intergraded monitor connection on the mother board.

Can anyone give me the next step how to check for what the problem is before I take the unit to a repair shop? I have no test equipment available.

LED black, need inverter?

I have read a few related threads and nothing hits my problem right on the head.

My wife spilled a few drops of soda on her Dell laptop LED screen. Soon after, the screen went black, but you can faintly see images. When I plug into external monitor, it works fine, so it's not video. I have tried the "unplug battery and hold power button for 60 seconds" and that didn't work. I took out panel and there does not seem to be any liquid damage, but I'm not an expert.

I can swap the panel or inverter, just don't know which it is and don't want to just throw money into something that won't fix it. Local computer shop wants $250-300, and they don't even do the fixing, they send it off to Chicago!!

I've seen a flowchart somewhere online showing if this has/has not happened, go to this item in the chart, etc. That helped me determine it could be the inverter. Any help would be appreciated!

short lines across monitor screen

I have 9 columns of lines across the monitor screen. The lines are approx. 7/8 inch wide and are in vertical groups of 5-6 at bottom and 2-3 at top of screen at startup. When I scroll, the bottom set of lines form columns from bottom to top of screen. The lines appear in green at bottom and blue at top against a dark background. When the background is light, the lines are pink at bottom and yellow at top. I have tested 3 monitors (2 lcd and 1 crt) with the lines appearing in all 3 - monitor is obviously not the problem. Any ideas?

Dimension 4500 Video Card Problems

Dell e1705 - intermittant LCD

I am 99% sure this is video adapter related but i wanted to post here just to get a little input from the community.

Dell e1705 uses ATI 1400 Mobility module/adapter

the video will come up on the LCD occasionally hitting the FUNC crt/lcd with an external vga monitor attached, the external will have vertical bars of static periodically and then it will clear up and windows gui will appear, if i reboot, and hit the func crt/lcd couple of times, the LCD on the laptop will boot from pst and go to windows without problem, about half the time it will remain dark.

replace the video adapter?
300.00 + dollars for a refurbished one...hence the post just to cover my bases.

Hi I have a HP laptop NX6310, when I turn the laptop on the screen stays off but the rest of the PC turns on i.e. the power light, harddrive light and the charge light.
If I leave the laptop turned off over night and turn the machine on it turns on but does not get past the XP loading screen.
I have replaced the RAM and the Harddrive and still the same.

Dell Monitor CRT 2002 Blue Tint Prob

Hello, I'm new here. I have a large Dell Monitor that came with my computer 6-7 years ago, and it has been a nearly trouble free system. About 3 hours ago the monitor, CRT, switched to a blue tint. Where there are words on the screen, there is a dim whit line. To me it appears that my monitor wants to go belly up, but that is my layman opinion. Is there a way to switch back to the non blue tint color scheme?

About 2 hours ago my computer monitor started to flicker horizontally, at first only the bottom half and is now moving up. I tried to upgrade device drivers for both the monitor and video card but no success and I also tried to do a system restore in case it was a virus, also with no luck! Small screen during POST

I know I have seen this problem once before, but I am currently seeing it on a dell latitude d600.
During POST and while windows is loading the display is about half its normal size and centered within the viewable area.
It appears this way in any PE environment as well.
But it is full size when the welcome screen appears and normal throughout windows operation.

ANY ideas?

I have the answer for the Dell 3000. Amazon has nvidia 8400gs. BFG Or EVGA makes them. I have a dell 3000 you can play Cod4, AA3, UT3, but you need to upgrade to at least 1 gig of memory. If not you probably bog down. No power supply upgrade needed. must be pci slot only!!

Latitude d600 laptop won't turn on

I have a latitude d600 laptop that periodically won't turn on when the adaptor is plugged in and when the battery is charged. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Last night it was working fine, but when I woke up this am it was off. Tried turning it on, and no go. Battery looked dead (even though it was plugged in) so unplugged and replugged it in. Battery started charging and eventually showed full charged lights on battery. Tried turning it on again without battery, and no response. Tried with battery and no adaptor, and no response. Tried with battery and adaptor, and the battery charge light flashes but no other response. Any advice?

hi.. I have an acer 23" LCD monitor. When the computer switches to UPS power, (for eg if I turn of the power from the wall socket) i hear a moderately soft buzzing noise comming from the monitor. What could the cause of this noise be?
The noise is there even when the monitor is in standby mode.

(I'm running the screen at very low brightness and contrast if it's relevant.)

Is the difference between VGA and HDMI on a 23" LCD monitor perceptible?

I use my HP V72 monitor for my photography. It powers on but there is no picture....I tried unplugging it and replugging. It just keeps making an off and on clicking noise. The green power light flashes and than stays on. When I move my mouse it makes the sound that it may appear...but does not. I tried my flat screen monitor and it works just fine. Did my HP V72 suddenly just die?

My Acer Aspire 4930 would blink once at startup

so I just did an OS format on my Aspire 4930..
I formatted Vista to XP because of obvious reasons.

but, after I installed all my drivers proper,
everytime at startup, my monitor would blink once to black,
but only about one second, even less..

it would not blink again for the rest of the session though.
but, when I uninstalled the VGA Intel driver to see if it had any effect,
the monitor didn't blink. it seems that the driver is the problem, yeah?

but I tried installing two versions and they're just the same.
what I want to ask is:

1) will it have any long-term effect?
2) is the monitor adjusting to anything; refresh rate, etc?
3) can I repair this?

I have an acer X233H monitor which I can connect via HDMI or VGA.
When I connect it with HDMI I don't see the windows XP loading screen or the BIOS screen.. But with VGA I do.
There's absolutely no difference between the two cables when running the operating system. What could cause this discrepancy?

Furthermore, I also notice that the monitor takes a little longer to start displaying images (that is identify a signal) when it is connected to the HDMI cable.

Color display problem

Hey, guys.

After switching on my computer this morning I noticed a problem with my display. The image is blurred and the colors have odd, discolored outlines. Here's a screenshot:

I've tried altering the resolution, disabling hardware acceleration, updating my video card's drivers and adjusting various contrast and brightness options on the monitor itself, but the problem has persisted.

KVM Advice needed with PC and Mac

I currently have a Compaq laptop with an external PS/2 keyboard and USB wireless mouse plugged into a VGA Acer monitor. But I am about to buy a Macbook with a glossy screen I don’t like so I would like to use a KVM switch if possible to have both computers switchable on the Acer monitor. I will probably keep the existing mouse but switch to a Mac USB keyboard if that will also work with the PC. I know nothing about KVM switches or setting up such a system and would appreciate any advice I can get about buying the right switch etc and suggestions on product.

Video Freeze/Signal Loss

When I'm playing games, my screen will periodically freeze for 5-10 seconds and then the monitor will go black, loss of signal. I can sometimes hear the game still continuing and can sometimes interact with it. I'll then power down my system and reboot after a 15 second wait and all will be fine. At first, it was happening once a day, but it's now occuring 2-3 times a day. I'm not sure if it's the cpu dying (this caused a friend's pc to power, not post & no video signal) or if it actually is my video card which is only 1 year old.

My system is about 5 years old and has:

hi all i have a medion lap top but i turned it on today and the screen is grey with red,blue,green vertical lines on it plug in an external monitor but it is still the same. but when i plug the charger in the screen went back to normal for about 5 min then whent bcak to the grey screen. so i wiggled the power lead and again the desk top could be seen

LCD Screen Door

I have a HP Pavilion Laptop that is having issues with the LCD. The problem is intermittent, and seems to be more frequent after the computer has been running for a while. Occasionally it appears like you are looking at the display through a screen door. Other times it has a yellow tint to the entire screen.

I have connected to an external display and that still looks fine even when the laptop does not.
I have even seen this odd display during POST, so I'm pretty sure it isn't OS related.
I have checked the connections inside and they are connected securely.

Is it safe to rule out the video card as suspect?
Or can a video card have an issue with one output and not another?
Can this be related to the LCD or Inverted?

Any help would be appreciated.

Monitor switches on/off on its own

Hi everybody.
I have a problem and I need some suggestions.

A few weeks ago, my monitor suddenly turned off on its own. Then I shut down my computer and switched it on again, and after 5 minutes the monitor turned off again. This happened several times in a row.
Some hours later I turned on the computer and it was working OK.
But recently when I turn the computer on, the monitor periodically switches on/off for several times before it "stabilizes". The little green light the monitor has also switches on/off.

What do you think is the problem? Do I need to buy a new monitor?
If it helps, I have a ViewSonic VE710s.

Mitsubishi geometry problems.

I have a Mitsubishi Eye-Q CRT monitor and the geometry is not ok enymore . Colors are fine, picture is clear ,but the geometry is as if bended in the down part of the display .No correction helps .
The bending is SLIGHT ( 1 mm ) but i am afraid that this unit might be dying on me .Can the geometry change be a sign that it is going dead?
There is also another problem .
When i turn it on and it is still cold the picture maches with the display ,but when it heats up ,then it gets shorter by 1mm ,or 1.3 mm .
Can this be fixed at all ?
I have a strange function that i have not tried yet ,but i dont know what it is . Its called "CLAMP PULS POSITION "What does it do ?

Hello i have two sli bridged 8600gt nvida xforces they work perfectly fine with windows xp but in device manager they show two video cards under display devices. The problem is one of the video cards has 1gb of ddr2 ram and the other one has 512mb of ddr2 ram. does this mean that they cant cooperate with each other and work together and act like one video card? if you need any other information just post ! :D

Hey ppl, so i've picked out 2 video cards that i want to get for my pc. 1Gb xfx geforce 9500 and 512Mb xfx geforce 9600...im wondering, would the 9600 still be a better buy than the 9500, because of a faster core clock rate? would the 9600 out perform it although it has less memory?

3 days ago while playing a game, i felt something burning but i couldnt trace it
today i went to frys to pick up some 120mm fans and more of the same ram for the NZXT case (sentry 2 i think) and it it all back in
I boot up my computer and hear the hd click, but my display is showing nothing and the power button simutaneously turns off and on

i tried swapping out video cards and checked all links
i tried the video cable on another computer and works
i hooekd my laptop to the monitor and it works
i swapped out the ram cards bit by bit
i stripped everything to 1 stick ram and 1 card and i could not find anything
the motherboard leds light up
i cleaned up the wiring a bit
the HD seems to be active

did i burn out my CPU or PSU?

Problem with display on Dell laptop

I wonder if anybody can tell me what my problem is. I have a dell Inspiron 9300 and it was working fine until a couple of days ago when I was working and without any warning about 5cm of the screen suddenly turned white in vertical strip from top to bottom.
I tried restarting, I tried all my antivirus programs and I tried system restore but no luck.
This vertical white strip comes on from start before windows XP has loaded, so i am sure it is a hardware problem. The rest of the screen is fine but all folders and files in the same area are hidden although they can still be accessed. I can move the cursor as it passes under the white bar, no problem.
Does anybody know what is going on, any help, greatly appreciated.

My monitor flickers for few seconds when turned on. After few seconds it resumes its usual image. The small green light of my monitor flickers too in the same time. I mention that it never flickers when used. I have a program that puts the monitor to sleep (the main unit still works) and when I want the monitor to exit the sleep mode flickers again for a few seconds and then it works well as usual. What could be the problem? Is it the cable? I've already changed it; I use a new one now. Is it the video card? Or it's just that my monitor is dying on me?

but the CPU and the monitor power on very well. so please help me, i tried to remove ram for sometime and put it back thats when it worked and after switching it off and on again it does the same problem,then i removed motherboard power cable and put it back it displayed propally but after switching it off and on again it does the same problem. so i don't know what to do next please help

hey ppls, i know i should probably google this, but i'd feel better getting the answer from someone (lazy), i just want to know if my monitor can display in HD, my max res is 1440 x 900, Its a Dell E1909W, Im using built in graphics and plan to get a video card. And also does DVI output HD quality?...im using a Dell vostro 200 by the way..thanks for any help to a lazy person like myself :)
