SATA raid by Adaptec setup as a mirror. When system boots raid bios shows one drive. When system boots win2k3 shows both drives in disk manager. This seems unusual. Is this the way its should be and if so how is raid achieved if both drives are visible individually.

I agree with your statement and this is certainly my experience with scsi raid.
Raid bios shows 1 drive. You can see this when the system boots. When you open diskmanager in windows this shows both drives. In the case of a scsi raid you would only see 1 drive in diskmanager.
