I am completely new to the subject of torrents, I now what they are but that's it.I have a Netgear DG 834G router which I use but need to now how to set up the firewall for "port fowarding" and to know why I have to do this. I have downloaded and installed "utorrent"but I also now need to learn about downloading torrents and achieving a decent download speed for this.

Is your port not being forwarded properly?
You have to configure your router to allow the port to be forwarded. For my router it is under virtual servers, enter the port number in/out being the same and use that port for torrents. I think it is in preferences in the torrent program.
configure the router and torrent program to use a certain port.
Hope this helps.
I use bit torrent and that test whether your port is forwarded or not.
