Hi,

I work as a Senior Software Developer at a Fortune 500 company. I work on a back end system that processes transactions at a batch level. At the end of the day we have to create a clunky report of all transactions and send it to an archaic report retention system called On Demand. Our users do not like On Demand. They say that it is very difficult to work with.

I am trying to convice my manager to let me build a web based UI for users to view legacy transactions. This will save us the trouble of building those clunky reports and save our users the pain of dealing with On Demand. However his contention is that our system's purpose is processing transactions and not record retention. He says that every system in the company has a purpose and ours is not maintaining legacy data. For this reason he will not let me build the UI.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can convince him otherwise?

Thanks.
