I've been listening to various debates on the potential impact of AI and the two sides seem to boil their arguments down to 1. AI is dangerous because it will mean the extinction of humanity as machines that can improve themselves will do it so rapidly as to quickly make the gulf between humans and AI like the gulf between ants and us. 2. AI is awesome because it will free us from menial jobs leaving us to be infinitely creative. Recently, [Bill Gates](http://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/bill-gates-artificial-intellegence-doesnt-think-ai-taking-everyones-jobs-is-a-bad-thing-2018-1-1014021350) stated that it will be a net positive because we'll all have a lot more free …

What is Artificial Intelligence for? Is it only for game development? is there any other things that it might be useful for? Thanks for advice.

Hello, Ever heard of artificial intelligence? I just attended Microsoft exhibition here in Indonesia. They introduce artificial intelligence called Rinna. anyone ever heard of one? It's a chat program that could answer us just like human. Just like talking to a pretty girl. I found this a little bit funny. Unfortanately I forget to ask for a phone number of the people who held the Microsoft AI exhibition. Now, I started to wonder if any AI could speak just like human out there in this world? Lol. Or if there is any other chat AI that has different personallity.

Back in the eighties, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency ([DARPA](http://www.darpa.mil/)) spent more than a billion dollars in an attempt to create what was, in effect, Skynet. You know, the self-aware artificial intelligence system that goes bad in The Terminator movie. DARPA called it the Strategic Computing Initiative, but it was Skynet alright. You only have to read this little bit of political persuasion in favour of the idea back then to get that: "...there will be unique new opportunities for military applications of computing. Instead of fielding simple guided missiles or remotely piloted vehicles, we might launch completely autonomous …

Hi friends..! Need little help here to choose a language to code my 2nd year project assignment. We are given to develop a 'Tank game' which will ultimately play over a network. maximum four players can join the game, there is a server application runnig on a server machine and each player need to connect to that server. Our assignment is to develop the player application. So each of our batch mates have to develop a player applicatioin which is intelligent and should be able to take decisions(e.g- turn, shoot , move) in order to win over other players. So …

Hello, I have recently started to develop my own game in Java and am just starting to get the hang of it. I've watched various tutorials on making an engine etc and have picked up quite a lot. I am struggling with one problem though, I have a world and two entities (The player and a Rat). The player is controlled using the keyboard which was easy to setup. But, how can I randomly get the Rat to move in a random direction with random intervals all by itself? I've tried a few different ways but I'm getting quite a …

Hi Folks, My partner and I are experienced investment professionals with a background in mathematics. We are picking up Python now and we're gonna take this free online class from UC Berkeley on AI programming. We're looking for a third to join in our study group, contrast approaches, discuss topics, etc. The class starts Feb 18th. Online videos. Note: It's a real course at UC Berkeley - it takes about 15 hours per week, once you throw in the assignments, all the way until May, but it's free. email me at nobodyknowsthefuture@gmail.com for details. Thanks!

In the main class the user enters text trying to find the file in the same directory as the source file. The string gets passed into the constructer and a file object is made but the file isn't found. The print statements are just to find out what is happening. The commented out code makes no difference either way. Generateresponse(String humanphrase){ //humanphrase += ".txt"; System.out.println("in new class"); //checks if file exists File f = new File(humanphrase); if(f.isFile()){ System.out.println("exists");

Hi, guys, I'm programming some artificial intelligence for a graphics program, Graphics Gale. The program is horrible, it won't let me combine layers with the same name, and it won't let me save the image as a Photoshop file, so what do I have to do? I have to code some AI. I have around 260 images that i need the layers combined, so I got all the AI working except for one part that makes no sence what so ever. It copies the current layer's image to the clipboard, and then saves it to a specified folder, but I …

Hi guys, I got a problem with my Programm after adding a new Class in my Tic_Tac_Toe version...I tryed to use a method of the clas KI_Test1 ( which is a very simple "AI"). The class before without static works. After changing everythin in static, because my main method is static, the compiler doesn't show me a mistake, but if I want to start it.It says "java.lang.NullPointerException". I know that it has to do with my used array in my main class, but I cannot find it... The error appears in the first line of my class "KI_Test1" method "Vergleichen(): …

Hey guys, I'm trying to make an AI character perform a pattern movement when a certain action occurs rather than have him do it all the time. I call two different methods, one to move him left, then move him right, the problem is the first method is still active when the second is called and it cancels out the movement and he stands still. Any suggestions??

at the moment I am having a problem with looping back to noun_phrase from np2. I was wondering if someone can help me loop back to nounphrase. Here is some code: noun_phrase([X|T],(det(X), NP2),Rem):- det(X), np2(T,NP2,Rem). np2([H|T],np2(adj(H),Rest),NP) :- adj(H), np2(T,Rest,Rem), noun_phrase(NP,Rem,_). I want to loop from np2 back to noun_phrase. I think the code for np2 is wrong as I just hacked it together.

I have an alpha beta interface and have implemented a tic tac toe class from it. For some reason my AI tends to occasionally make stupid moves (such as making a fork rather than blocking a 2 in a row) I was wondering if anybody can see where I went wrong: StaticTicTacToe class:
class StaticTicTacToe:public IAlphaBetaPlayer { private: bool isX; LABRandom r; public: StaticTicTacToe(bool isX):isX(isX),r(){} virtual double evaluate(IGameState &gs) { if (gs.ID()!=TICTACTOEID) return 0.0; char *s=(char*)gs.data; char tiars[8][3]={ {s[0],s[1],s[2]},{s[3],s[4],s[5]},{s[6],s[7],s[8]}, {s[0],s[4],s[8]},{s[2],s[4],s[6]},{s[0],s[3],s[6]}, {s[1],s[4],s[7]},{s[2],s[5],s[8]}}; double ret=50.0; for (int i=0; i<8; i++) { //1st check for win if (tiars[i][0]==tiars[i][1]&&tiars[i][1]==tiars[i][2]) { if (isX) { if …

Certainly an historical experiment with possible future changes in delivery of University-level education: http://www.reddit.com/r/aiclass/comments/kp1wb/amazing_we_can_probably_offer_a_masters_degree_of/ I've decided to take the Basic track so that I only take the quizzes, but get to miss those frightening exams. :) Thankfully, all of the pre-reqs are available as videos on Khan Academy. Hi, all I'm searching for an idea regarding AI term project. I've researched a lot about AI areas, but not able to decide/come up with reasonable project that can be implemented within 2 months (approx. 5-10 hours a week) and easy to test&document, but at the same time be non-trivial (to implement). Do you guys have any ideas, previous projects, future project that meet this criteria? Note, I'm not interested in ready solutions/implementation, but just an ideas or project specification. Thanks a lot. Regards.

I would be also thankful if you could explain me one more thing: Django- it's a web framework for creating a web application(I read so), but what can I achieve with it? Is it possible to create online photo browser or online graphic/text editor? …

Hello Daniweb, In 3D space I have generated a path which jumps between points in a grid of 100x100x100. When simulating movement through this path, I tried making a bezier curve of the points in the path, but the results were not good enough. I googled a lot, and the closest I came to success was this article from a game developer (http://www.valvesoftware.com/publications/2009/ai_systems_of_l4d_mike_booth.pdf, page 14) - something called reactive path following seams to be good for my purpose. I am not sure at all, how I would get on to do this. I thought of choosing a random number (2-6 …

This is the first time Milo has been discussed since the E3 event held in 2009. Molyneux’s goal is to, "…introduce a new revolution in storytelling." He even believes that his pet project will set the course for a revolution in the way we interact with media. "Films, TV, even hallowed books, are just rubbish because they …
