Go.google virus is preventing me from installing mba-m

After allowing a friend to use my computer, I came back to find it with antivirus pro 2009 on it.
Woohoo!

After finding fixes for it, they all seem to point to using Malwarebyte's anti-malware, but upon launching the installer, nothing happens, the "Loading" cursor pops up for a while then goes away, forcing me to kill the process. I can't open any av programs, except for avg which comes up with an error upon scanning.

Help is greatly appreciated.

Turn off uTorrent and Turn off Spybot TeaTimer, Windows Defender. Leave them off.
Delete the MBA-M that you downloaded and try downloading it again. Try HERE or HERE

Save it to the desktop. Close ALL unnecessary programs, including those noted above plus all browsers, mail programs, IM programs, games, etc.
Then try to install and see what happens. If you get it to install then please update it and then run a Full System scan.
Once it is complete it will show you a list of items found. Be sure everything is checked and click REMOVE SELECTED.
Save the log and Reboot the computer.
Post back with the log.

I did as you said, but it still wouldn't install. I did get it to install by renaming the installer to eatthis.exe, but then the program itself wouldn't run.

I uninstalled it which consisted of me looking at an uninstall menu for 15 minutes then killing the process. The installer will no longer work.

Have you tried Safe Mode with Networking? This would load the minimal processes required but should allow you to download, install and update.

By the way, these listings

indicate the programs are running, can you use task manager and turn end their processes?

I ran sdfix before your post, and everything's running pretty smooth now. MBA-M installed and I'm running a scan now, I'll fix everything it finds then post a log to see if there's still anything wrong.

How did you get sdfix if you couldn't download anything?

I was using a proxy to access this site and anything else that was blocked.

Finally a solution to this!

Hey guys I am a first time poster but this virus was such a bastard that I thought I would share the solution I have found. Here is how you get rid of it.

1: Go to download.com and search for malwarebytes. Download the malwarebytes program.

2: Once downloaded, change the name of it from mbam.exe to a .com extension.

3: Run the program.

4: Once installed go to c:\program files\malwarebytes\mbam.exe and change the extension to ".com" like before.

5: Run malwarebyte (quickscan). *Note : it will not update at this point. Just run as is.

6: Delete all detected items and reboot.

7: Change mbam.com back to mbam.exe and run the program again.

8: You will notice that it will actually update now. Update and run another scan to remove any final traces.

9: All done!

Why do you say this? You haven't followed them ("I will not follow"), and I know first hand that it removes the problem. Is it the .com extension thing... well that means "command". It is a substitute for .exe considering this virus damages the portion of the registry that instructs the pc on how to handle .exe files. .com serves the same function.

If anyone out there wants to listen to Cohen here that's fine. I just wanted to do you all a favor because I know how long it took me to figure this stuff out.
