To start I want to make it clear I have no experiance with office 365 or the associated exhange stuff, and I would never personally recomend such a package to my clients, hence why I am totally in the dark about this. I have taken on the management of IT for a small buiness and have been tasked with migrating away from office 365 software to get costs down. There were 15 computers and each had an email address and access to the microsoft 365 software suite. So far I have changed all the accounts onto an "exchange only" plan, …

Chrome just prompted me to restart to update to the latest version, as it sometimes does. I did it, and the browser looks *entirely* different. Completely unexpected. It looks more like Firefox now, IIRC. Not really a problem with it, just surprised and thought I'd comment.

Intro: I am Almario and I would like to discuss windows installation especially and more specifically out of the box installations. Why it should be partitioned to at least two drives. Body: A drive is volatile to a user and easily damagable. A drive when given super user access to system 32 folder. I won't explain how to do this as it will cause more bootsector virus code to appear. Anyways lol, once this folder and a specific subfolder is granted super access the virus can damage the boot sequence. Now when windows is started you can not access windows. …

My wife got a VeryfitPro fitness monitor for Christmas. I have the app loaded on my Android (6) phone and was hoping to install a companion app on my Windows 10 laptop but the only thing available is to install an Android emulator on Windows 10 then load the phone app into that. I did a google search and found a list of the 7 best emulators. The list was 1. BlueStacks 1. Remix OS Player 1. Droid4x 1. MEmu 1. Nox Player 1. AMIDuOS 1. Windroy I tried Bluestacks and ended up at an online poker site. Remix resulted …

I'm asking this question in the context of a satellite internet service with expensive download limits... If you just accept all the recommended updates for Windows 10 (creator's update, security etc) for a single Home Edition machine how many Gigabytes will that represent in a typical 12 month period? Eg: I'm thinking maybe 5 gig for one major update plus maybe an average of 500 meg/month other stuff?

An early Xmas present to myself arrived at Chez Moi last month in the shape of a rather thick credit card. It's not actually a credit card though, and while it's a chunky 6mm wide it is pretty smart truth be told. That's because it's a clinically validated cardiac diagnostic device, a heart monitor to you and me, called a WIWE. Once I got myself over the fact that I cannot stop pronouncing it as a wee wee, I quickly found the WIWE does a whole lot more than your Fitbit or smartwatch can do in terms of monitoring your …

Hello, my name is John McPherson. I work as a contractor for the DOL, and I am trying convert some code I maintain in an application to send output files to a printer. Right now, the code( a bash script) just slowly prints the output file on the screen, and the customer wants to have it sent to the printer instead. I work on a 64-bit Oracle( Sun) system with Solaris 11 as the Operating System. I have tried the command lpr -h -l $showfl in the bash script, but that just errors off without printing. I kept searching online …

I am trying to establish a connection between LibreOffice (5.4.6.2) and Mariadb (10.1.29)/mysql. I have researched various resources on the web but am stuck not being able to establish a connection preliminary steps taken: * the file mariadb-java-client-2.4.0.jar is downloaded from [https://downloads.mariadb.com/Connectors/java/connector-java-2.3.0/](https://downloads.mariadb.com/Connectors/java/connector-java-2.3.0/) * JRE is installed and enabled under LibreOffice Tools > Options > Advanced * in that Advanced tab, Class Path is set with `mariadb-java-client-2.4.0.jar` (I have tried with a path `/opt/mariadb-java-client-2.4.0.jar` and `/home/<my user name>/mariadb-java-client-2.4.0.jar`) Based on web site and youtube tutorials, the next steps are to connect via LibreOffice Base. Using the wizard: * Connect to an …

Confession time: I'm a born again smartwatch fan. I used to not see the point, and then somehow managed to buy a Samsung Gear S3 Frontier and everything changed. That this thing looked like a watch, had an innovative rotating bezel as an input control mechanism and worked so smoothly with my newly purchased Samsung Galaxy S8+ were the main reasons for that. Having been a very happy smartwatch bunny for the past 18 months or so, I was both interested and annoyed when the next-gen of the Samsung Gear watch family hit the market. I know, I know, there's …

When booting up my Acer Aspire 1690 laptop the fan starts but then quits after about 5 seconds. The system starts up nicely (OS starts up) it just doesn't have a fan anymore which basically renders the laptop useless. I already tried to clean the fan with compressed air and I even ordered a new fan, but to no avail. Anyone who had a similar problem? Or any idea how to fix it?

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705. For some odd reason, my computer will freeze sometime while my wireless radio is on, while I'm at my apartment. I have already ruled out a power, memory, or overheating issue. I reformatted and reinstalled XP, yet it still did it. If I disable the radio, my computer doesn't freeze. Also, it doesn't automatically freeze up as soon as I turn on the radio or connect to my network. Sometimes, it may last for awhile, while other times it may only take a minute or two. Just FYI, I am on the wireless network …

After saying for the last 10 years that I would never own a cell phone (I had enough of that spending many years on call), I finally broke down and got one. It is a Figo (Speak Out) Android (Marshmallow) phone that allows me to buy a block of minutes without having to pay monthly fees. Basically I can use it as much or as little as I want and just pay for what I use. My first complaint was the almost complete lack of documentation. It is a royal pain in the ass figuring out what every little (microscopic, …

Remember when once upon a time all you had to do to start Windows in safe mode was go all Woody Woodpecker on the F8 key during boot? Well in Windows 10 it seems you have to do just a little more... 1. On the login screen click on the power icon (lower right) then hold the shift key while clicking "Restart" from the popup menu. 1. During the reboot you will get a "Choose an option" menu. Click on "Troubleshoot". 1. On the next menu click on "Advanced options". 1. On the next menu click on "Startup Settings". 1. …

Hi chaps, I have a Dell XPS17, dual booting with Windows and Ubuntu on it. I have to give it away and therefore reinstall windows. Usually, I'd format the whole HD and reinstall Windows, but I don't have the Windows CD – it wasn't dispatched with the laptop unfortunately – so I'd like to try to do everything with the Recovery partition. I checked and it appears to be there. Now, can I format the whole HD except the Recovery partition so that I reinstall windows and remove Ubuntu with some Windows' utility rather than manually formatting it?

Greetings, Okay, so having an odd issue with a network at work. This is a fairly small LAN with about 30-50 workstations / devices / printers / etc. So the issue in essence is that only one of the workstation on the network can access craigslist. All others time out. This is not a DNS issue as a ping to craigslist.org resolves correctly to 208.82.237.226 on all workstations. Also a tracert completes on all workstations with nothing remarkable. I have only seen this once before and the issue was never resolved. This is not an ISP issue as one of …

My wife's laptop is a Dell Latitude E6520. A good enough machine except for one annoying quirk. The wireless card keeps disabling itself. We have it configured so that closing the lid puts it to sleep. When it wakes up, the wireless card is disabled. Before you ask, I already have it configured to not power off. I reinstalled the latest driver from Dell but no luck. So far I have managed by running a script in the background that repeatedly checks to see if the device is disbled, then automatically re-enables it, but I would rather fix the problem …

I am something of a self-confessed Anker hardware fan. I've been using their cables, power supplies and portable chargers for years now. However, I never really thought of Anker in the audio space, until now. Soundcore is an Anker brand with just audio products out there, as the name suggests. So, I needed some new earphones for my daily multi-mile walks and thought I'd give Soundcore a go. Especially when I saw these 'Liberty Lite' wireless earbuds were so much cheaper than the big brand versions from the likes of Apple, Bose and Samsung. Not that I have an iPhone, …

It wasn't bad enough that Skype nagged me with "your current version will soon stop working" every time I brought up the GUI. When I ignored the upgrade requests is started popping up notices even when I wasn't using Skype. So I finally bit the bullet and did the upgrade to Skype version 8.25.0.5. As far as I can tell, the changes are only cosmetic. Changing the font size is non-standard. In Chrome, Firefox, my email, etc, you can increase/decrease the font size with CTRL+/CTRL- or by CTRL-SCROLL. But in Skype you have to CTRLSHIFT+. There is still no way …

ASUS Computers I recently had dealings with Asus. The situation was regarding a malfunctioning keyboard. The computer is a several-year-old (no longer under warranty) Asus K53E laptop. It belongs to my father-in-law and because he is somewhat careless with food (he is 91 so this is understandable), something eventually got under one of his CTRL keys causing it to stick closed. Naturally, this made the keyboard (and scroll wheel) useless. At this point there were two possible solutions: 1. Clean the keyboard 1. Replace the keyboard Before trying option 1 I wanted to see if I could actually purchase a …
