Hi, and welcome to Daniweb :).

You do have a bit of "nasties". Start by running HJT agan and selecting Do system scan only. Then check these items.

Download pocket killbox from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/killbox.exe & put it on the desktop where you can find it easily

Now Start killbox Copy the list of files below to the clipboard by selecting all of them with your mouse (Left click the start of the list and drag the mouse to the bottom of the list) and when they are all selected ( highlighted in blue) right click on any part of the blue area and say copy

In the Killbox, Go to the toolbar press file and select Paste from clipboard. The first file name will appear in the window and if the file exists it will appear in blue under that window then check "Delete on reboot".

Reboot.

File List:

C:\DOCUME~1\Daddy\APPLIC~1\RACLE~1\winlogon.ex

Post what whould be the last log

Hi - The file did not appear in Killbox after I copy and pasted from clipboard. I assume this means the file did not exist. Here is the HJT log.

Ok, time for Killbox. The ~ in the file name show that the computer cannot read exactly what the name is. Therefore, we sorta have to guess in a sense which folder it is based on the letters we know.

Therefore, I'm pretty confident the initial folder is Doc & settings. So we know so far it's this : C:\Documents and Settings.

The nxt word is intact, so we know its here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Daddy

The nxt folder appears to be 'Applications'. So we now have this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Daddy\Application Data

After this step, it's becomming alittle difficult. Go to this spot so far (to get here, u'll prly need to unhide folders). Inside 'Application Data', look for a folder with the first letters being 'Racle' . Also, the file might just be 'Oracle'. After finding files, post back here the names of them, and we'll work from there.

Thanks.

Hi - Thanks for taking a look and helping. Below is the Look2Me log. Also, the full path as I found it was: C:\Documents and Settings\Daddy\Application Data\Oracle\Racle~1
This 'Racle~1' folder is empty now.

The pop-ups had stopped after tayspen's last instructions but I did have just one pop-up after I ran Look2Me again.

Haha good, it all looks good. Just 1 more thing. Could ya post a new HJT log?

Thanks.

Actually, its not. After I ran Look2Me again to get the log for my last post, my browsers can't get to any sites! Even my email (outlook) can't be retrieved. Please help! I'm working off another PC but I cant post a new HJT log from the infected computer now.

Please post another HJT log when you get back your computer. So we can determine the problem.

Thanks

FYI - I'm actually at the infected computer but can't post from there because I have no access to the web now.. I put the HJT .txt log on an RW disc and am posting to this site from my laptop.

Here it is:

Hmm, the log's clean. Do ya still not have internet access?

Correct, still no internet access. Email can't contact connect either.

Arg, alrite. We're now gonna try a LSPfix, although I don't think that's the problem.

Download LSPfix here, and run it.

Post a log if it gives it to ya.

After that, run a new HJT scan and post back here.

Thanks.

LSPfix reported 0 changes made. Still no connection to internet. Here's another HJT log. Thanks.

Hmmm, I don't see anything in your log, that looks bad. I am out of ideas since LSpFix did not work, maybe jhay116, or DMR will have some more ideas.

Wait, by any chance do you have Norton Internet serurity on your computer?

Hmmm, I'm outta ideas too.

Let's clean some more tho.

Begin by downloading CCleaner, and specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\History
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Cookies
C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'.

Next, after following all of these steps, you're ready to scan. Run scans in both the 'Cleaner' and 'Issues'. Note: It might take several scans in each to remove all of the junk.

Also, sorta off topic, but what type of internet connection do ya got?

Post back here with a new HJT log.

Thanks.

Heh ya, we already tried that, with the LSPfix.

Thanks.

Heh ya, we already tried that, with the LSPfix.

Thanks.

I saw that but LSPFix only repairs the Winsock LSP chain. If Winsock XP Fix fails to resolve the issue, then there oither options; like manually rebuilding the WinSock. There could be other issues not shown by HJT. WinPFind by Oldtimer, GetRunKeys by Chaslang or ISeeYou by PhilliePhan are excellent tools to look at areas of the registry that HijackThis doesn't look at.

tayspen - No I don't have Norton Internet Security.

jhay116 - I did everything as instructed; still no connection. I have cable (road runner) running through a belkin router. New HJT log below.

The messed up thing is that it was actually working fine until I ran L2Me again.. No clue why that would've messed me up.

Download WinPFind by OldTimer

  • Extract it to the root folder of drive C ( C:\ ). This will create a folder called WinPFind on C:\ . Inside C:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program.
  • Now click Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.
  • When it is done, it will show the results of the scan. Right Click in the window and choose Select All. Then Right Click again and select Copy which will copy to the contents of the log to your clipboard. Then open a notepad window and paste in the log by pressing CTRL-V. Save it to a file and upload the text file here as an attachment.

Thanks ShadowPuterDude! Looks like Winsock XP worked; I'm back online and pop-up free as well. Should I still run WinPFind? (I'm guessing no, but what do I know?) :cheesy:

Thanks also to Tayspen and Jhay116 for all of your help:!:

I'll add to reps accordingly.

Much appreciated, really.

Yes I am, my skills are a little too advanced for MRU; but I enrolled anyway.:) Never hurts too go back to the basics, sometimes.

D3m3nt3d is my partner.

@daddysla no WinPFind isn't necessary if everthing appears to be running fine.
