Did you get your problem fixed?

If not email me at conspiringfate@earthlink.net

Thanks for the check-up, Conspiring Fate - actually, so far, so good. On the advice of a few good folks here & elsewhere, I was able to remedy the problem by unmarking everything in the 'Customize Desktop' Web-tab...at least it looks like it's working. I just guessing here, but whatever the little beastie was that was causing the problem, it musta gotten blown out of the water after I did an XoftSpy sweep and used HJT to identify/fix/remove anything that was unfamiliar. The unchecking of the web tab stuff might just have restored things... I don't know. I'm a gear head more than an IT junkie. Hopefully this is the end of this thread.

Thanks much, all -

JP

Good morning, all -

1st time poster here... have been browsing around your site and like what I see.

Anyway, regarding my problem - I have what appears to be the fairly common instance of having my desktop background go white - the icons are all there, but I cannot select the nice purty background that used to be there; however, it does flicker up for just a brief second when I shut down. Thankfully, it does not appear to corrupt or interrupt any software, though it does make the machine run a bit slower.

I've followed a few of the more common recommended fixes and, unfortunately, the problem still exists. Honestly, I don't see anything in my HJT log that looks like it shouldn't be there, but I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination. I've enclosed the HJT log below and am hoping/praying somebody would be kind enough to help me out and walk through the fix step-by-step. I apologize in advance for having a couple of browser windows open: When I ran the HJT log, I was unaware that you prefer all browsers to be closed - there was 1-2 of them open and I'm now posting this from work, not the home system that's infected.

Note: all software versions should be the latest & greatest - running XP Professional as well.

Many thanks -

JP
