Is everyone familiar with this game? Just reply with the first word that comes to your mind when you think of the last word posted. You can't respond to the post with a comment, just the word that comes to your mind. It can only be a word or a short phrase. Also remember to use the arrow --> in between the previous word/phrase and the new word/phrase you just thought of. Also, You can't go twice in a row. I'll start it off with: Lucy

Sorry for the intermittent downtime over the past few days. We think we were being DDOS'ed, perhaps unclear. However, we've upgraded to new web servers tonight, to bring HTTP/2 support and *finally* move from PHP 5.x to PHP 7. A few years late, I know. Let me know if anything isn't working as it should!

Hi all, I haven't used the forum for a while so lot of the functionalities are new to me and I have to admit I found some of them really counter intuitive/annoying. For a start, the way to reply to threads, that "Reply to this topic" button at the bottom that then turns into a small window which is incredibly annoying. Yes you can press esc and that turns into a full window but there you lose all the formatting options (code, quote etc): why can't we hav a normal full size window with all the options to reply to …

I think we can all agree (this will likely provoke disagreement) that a voting machine that records a vote electronically without a way to do a manual verification is a bad idea. How then should a proper voting machine work. My suggestion is to have a touch screen on which the voter makes his/her selections (invalid selections would not be allowed). The voter would 1. Make selections on screen 1. Print ballot 1. Compare ballot to screen Once the voter receives the printout he/she would then compare the printed ballot with the selections made on screen. At that point the …

Group, I've dabbled in coding (both front end and back end) since the mid 1990s. However I've never done it full time (except for a short stint writing database query's in 2015 and 2016). Because of the economic downturn in 2008 and the sale of Starwood Hotels to Marriott, I find myself with accepting what amounts to temp jobs to (somewhat) support myself. Thus I've pondered the idea of a coding school or a certificated program through one of the local college to gain useful skills in the field. But here's the rub: I'm almost 60. So here are a …

I think I finally understand why Trump is doing so well (he recently pulled even with Hillary Clinton). It's only after years of shows like American Idol and America's Got Talent that his rise is possible. These shows got Americans used to the idea that they could vote with no actual consequences. In most cases (with very few exceptions), people with minimal talent are voted on and selected as "the winner", then almost immediately return to obscurity. In some cases (remember Sanjaya Malakar) there was an actual campaign to rig the vote so that a thoroughly undeserving candidate would win. …

Just wondering how DW is doing re posts. I pass by from time to time and peruse the webdev forum. Apart from code snippets from Dani, I see very little new stuff. Am I missing something? Is it just that forum that's showing old posts? Even when I turn off the filter, it seems pretty quiet.

How do I change my account picture?

It seems everytime I visit the homepage of daniweb.com I get a screen that is modern in design but is missing the mark so much so that others and I are bypassing it and going elsewhere. On top of that it shows duplicates of the same topic (see image) which I've seen it push up 3 or more that lead you to the same discussion. What makes it even more a place I may stop looking at is I can't click on the reply date and get to the answer or new content. Instead I have to either page through …

Have been trying to change my profile pic via the community profile update avatar option. I keep getting told that 'The image you are attempting to upload doesn't fit into the allowed dimensions.' However, there is no clue as to what the allowed dimesions might be. The one I'm trying to upload has been sized down to 490x653 (171kb) and I can't recall what the limits previously were, will keep trying smaller and smaller - but thought it might be an idea to flag the max size in the error message that is thrown up.

Member profiles now have a new statistic that measures impact. It counts how many people the user has reached. It should be noted that we just started calculating this number earlier this year, so at this time, the highest number is roughly one million.

When I leave a comment (vote with comment ) under someone post , it will increase 2 points for vote up and 0 point for vote down. After I leave the comment and click the vote up button, the user earn 2 points. But after I vote down again, the comment get removed but the user still earning 2 points. The two points should be deducted too, no ? Thanks.

Serious question. I'm really interested in what you actually use DaniWeb for and what you get out of your membership? 1. What is the main thing you do when you are visiting DaniWeb? 2. Is there anything you'd like to do that you can't currently? 3. Do you have one tip to pass onto others so they can get the best out of their time here?

Recently I realized that I not receive any email notification from DaniWeb. When I check on the User Settings, I saw this alert message > We have been having problems emailing you. Has your email address changed? Please update your email address to begin receiving email from us again. After I re-write my email, this message changed to > An email to verify your account has been sent to xxx@hotmail.com. Please click the link in the email to confirm your email address. But when I check my mail, I don't receive any email from DaniWeb.

Parents please be aware and very cautious of what your child watches on YouTube and KIDS YOUTUBE. There is a thing called ‘Momo’ that’s instructing kids to kill themselves, turn stoves on while everyone is sleep and even threatening to kill the children if they tell their parents!!! ![download.jpeg](/attachments/large/4/dc1303529642573b46b66ccb1a2992ce.jpeg)

The Quebec government will be introducing legislation that prohibits public employees from displaying religious symbols while at work. This would include items such as crucifixes, kirpans, turbans, hijabs, yarmulkes, etc. Even though there is majority public support for this legislation ther has been a strong backlash with the claim that this impinges on religious freedom. If anyone is interested, I'd like to start a discussion on this. I'm on the "public service positions should at least have the appearance of neutrality" side of the debate. I hear interviews where I wish the interviewer would ask certain qquestions, or respond to …

Group, I've written some code to populate a listview using 3 fields from a database. When creating the listview, I named the individual columns for appearance purposes, (Account No, Company Name and Name). Those columns are being populated appropriately as expected. However data column names are being shown in column 4 5 and 6, but with no data. What in my code is causing this? Any suggestions on how to fix this? My code is as follows: Private Sub tbxCompanyName_Leave(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles tbxCompanyName.Leave lvwSearchCustomer.Visible = True Me.lvwSearchCustomer.View = View.Details Me.lvwSearchCustomer.GridLines = True Dim strQ As String …

A few years ago, the Canadian government (at that time it was a majority Conservative government under Stephen Harper) proposed legislation which would have weakened the privacy rights of all Canadians. Part of the justification was to allow easier apprehension and prosecution of people trafficking in child pornography. The justice minister, Vic Toews, said that anyone opposing the bill was in favour of child pornography. Of course, this was a ridiculous statement, creating a false dichotomy of "you're either with us or against us". Similarly, the media seems intent on painting anyone who favoured Great Britain's exit from the European …

I'm hoping that people will post unusual or little known facts here. It would be proper to include a link to a source for confirmation. Here's a start. Speedy Gonzales was banned by the Cartoon Network for being an offensive stereotype, only to be returned after mass protest by the Hispanic-American community. I just got a PM from a user who said "Hello! I'm <username>. Nice to meet you! Let's connect." What I know about this user is precisely zero. Before I respond to a "let's connect" request I'd like to know a little bit about this user. In the old Daniweb I would just go o that user's profile page and read whatever he/she had decided to share. How do I do that now? And if I can't do that, what incentive do I have to respond?

As I understand it, there were problems on Sunday (Feb 24) which caused problems logging in. Daniweb would not accept my password (or so it said). Normally when I go to login I get presented with the login page with my userID (reverend Jim) and password already filled in. Now I was getting the login page with my email address instead of my userID. Manually entering my userID and password resulted in an indication that my password was incorrect. I clicked on the "Reset Password" which is supposed to send a reset email to a given address (which I entered). …
