I continuously get this warning whenever a constructor delegates to another constructor within the containing type, having virtual bases. `warning C4100: '$initVBases' : unreferenced formal parameter` It's the same warning as when a parameter or local goes unused, it in this case it seems to be referring to the virtual bases to initialize, but in this case, still makes no sense. I'm using Visual C++ Compiler 12.0.

A 22 year old vulnerability, yes you read that right, has been discovered which some security experts suggest could be bigger than Heartbleed. The bug, reported as '[CVE-2014-6271:remote code execution through bash](http://seclists.org/oss-sec/2014/q3/649)' relates to how environment variables are processed: with trailing code in function definitions being executed independently of the variable name. This can be exploited remotely with code injected into environment variables across the network. The GNU Bourne Again Shell (Bash) command interpreter is widely used, to put it mildly, and as such is being treated as a critical security risk to Unix and Linux systems. Which means it …

Following on from the news that an eBay password database has been compromised, and universal advice from security experts that users should now change their passwords, one thing has been loud clear: the total lack of that password change requirement from eBay. Sign into eBay and there is nothing to say stop, change your password. There has been no email sent to registered users urging them to make the change. In fact the only I've read of it have come from news stories in which they state that eBay are 'urging users to change their passwords' but truth be told …

Hello, I am a web developer who is having a hard time trying to get my scripts to connect to my new web host. The script works perfectly on my localhost (I'm using XAMPP) but once I try to use it on my web host, I get the following error: Access denied for user 'ljvnxryi'@'server.nocdirect.in' (using password: YES) I have changed all the information to what has been supplied by the web hosters but it is still not working. The strange bit is; If I use a username/password combination (one specific) which was not given to me by the hosters, …

A warning to other companies who are considering taking part in any strategy/ networking meetings organised by IBDG: Our firm signed up for IBDG’s IT Directors Strategy Meeting, scheduled for February 2010, under the impression that we were dealing with a well respected and professional company and thus wanted to take advantage of the networking opportunity that the meetings on offer would provide. We were dismayed however with the immediate bombardment by the sales team once we had shown initial signs of interest in the proposed meeting. After constant pressure and unscrupulous sales tactics we were forcefully encouraged to sign …

UK home shopping pioneers Lakeland have sent an email to all customers past and present to warn them that the retailers website has been hacked. What Managing Director Sam Rayner calls a "sophisticated and sustained attack" took place late on Friday 19th July. Measures were taken at the time to block that attack and repair the system, however the ongoing investigation has revealed that two encrypted databases were compromised. In that email to customers, Rayner states that the company has been "unable to find any evidence that the data has been stolen" but nonetheless has taken immediate action to delete …

Users of online banking services are at risk from a new 'in the wild' Trojan, Hesperbot, which has been discovered by the ESET malware research lab. Researchers have found that infections of users in Turkey are currently most rife, with users in the Czech Republic, Portugal, Thailand and the United Kingdom also falling victim along with smatterings elsewhere. Victims in the Czech Republic, so it would seem, have been hardest in terms of financial loss with ESET claiming that people hit by Hesperbot in this region have "lost significant amounts of money as a result". Hesperbot is spread using very …

Just as your average Joe starts to 'get' the importance of online security, and that means using anti-virus software, so the bad guys start exploiting this new found understanding by flooding the Internet with fake AV products. Security researchers at SophosLabs have today identified a major new fake anti-virus software campaign which is threatening to flood the Internet with malicious security products. The widespread spam campaign is designed purely with one goal: to get the unwary recipient to open HTML files attached to the messages which then redirect web browsers to hacked sites that come complete with a malicious iFrame …

Why has it taken six years for someone to take a contract out on my life? Or, more accurately, for a scammer to send me an email demanding payment of a bribe in order for him to cancel a supposed contract. The first hitman scam was spotted almost exactly six years ago in December 2006, and transported from email to the world of SMS mobile phone texting a couple of years later. Then it all went quiet for a couple of years, as far as I can tell, but the hitman scam is back and I got one. ![dweb-hitman](/attachments/small/0/dweb-hitman.jpg "align-right") …

No, I don't mean the banning of wearing Pepsi T-Shirts in the Olympic Stadium as it might upset official sponsors Coke, or the fact that nobody is allowed to sell chips other than McDonalds or even the undemocratic powers given to law enforcement in the UK to prevent people using certain combinations of 'Olympic-related' words in their advertising. The 'World's Greatest Anti-Malware Software' is the spurious claim being made by Malwarebiter, which just so happens to sound an awful lot like Malwarebytes which could perhaps justifiably lay claim to that accolade. Take a look at this forum and you will see that Malwarebytes is a very valuable tool for discovering just what nasties are present on your computer, and for getting rid of them. Malwarebiter, on the other hand, is most certainly nothing of the kind. Malwarebiter, if you hadn't guessed by now, is a prime example of the Rogue Anti-Virus genre, identifying perfectly legitimate files as malware …

It's not often that Microsoft recommends that Windows users should disable a much hyped part of the OS, but that's exactly what has happened regarding the Windows Sidebar and Windows Gadgets found in Windows Vista and Windows 7. [Microsoft Security Advisory 2719662](http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/advisory/2719662) clearly states "Disabling the Windows Sidebar and Gadgets can help protect customers from vulnerabilities that involve the execution of arbitrary code by the Windows Sidebar when running insecure Gadgets" and Microsoft even provides a handy [Fix-It tool](http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2719662) to do the job for you. The Flashback Trojan has infected at least 600,000 Apple computers running Mac OS X according to the Russian AV company [Dr Web](http://www.drweb.com/?lng=en) which researched the spread of the malware which was originally discovered at the end of last year and for which Apple issued a security patch just this week. You can determine if your Mac is one of the machines infected by the Flashback Trojan, which disguises itself as an Adobe Flash Player installer, by running the AppleScripts provided by Mashable in response to the Dr Web discovery and available for [download here](http://mashable.com/2012/04/05/mac-flashback-trojan-check/) Alternatively, you can run the following …

Adobe has, however, issued an [emergency security patch](https://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb12-09.html) for Android, Linux and Mac users as well as those with Windows which kind of suggests it could be indicative of a wider problem with the software. ![dweb-flash](/attachments/small/0/dweb-flash.jpg "align-right") Adobe is recommending that any users of Flash Player v11.2.202.233 and earlier for Windows, Mac and Linux should …
