£1.15 where you are, huh JB? It's €1.20 ish where I am. Interesting. But I'm not certain if the invasion on Iraq was the direct cause of the oil inflation. Sure, a leading factor... but certainly not the only cause. The supplies, for one, which are diminishing quickly.

>> (twice?)
One better! Thrice. It's not only the distillation. It's made in 'tanks' (I can't remember the word ATM), which were used previously. The tastes add over time. I think Irish Whiskey has a nicer taste than others I've tried, but I'm willing to accept that it's down to personal taste and national pride.

twomers 408 Posting Virtuoso

But why start a comparison thread where you are not encouraged and stimulated to think!? :-/

twomers 408 Posting Virtuoso

In terms of education, healthcare etc I don't think anyone can really have an educated view on this unless they lived in both nations for long enough period, say about ten years. In both cases the decision would be a 'lesser of two evils' answer -- none are perfect. You might also have had a good/bad experience in, say, a hospital which would sway your views. A wide sample would be needed. Difficult to compare.

twomers 408 Posting Virtuoso

Yep. "Uisce beatha" does indeed mean that. It's the Irish for Whiskey (Irish is a poetic language). "ish-keh beh-ha" if you wanna know how to say it.

As JB will probably confirm, whiskey (with an e), is Irish whiskey differing from whisky (no e), which is Scottish.

I'm not so sure about St. Patrick introducing distillation in Ireland though. Though there is a marked increase in alcohol consumption on March 17h ... so you may have a point!

Well martians walk around mars all day, but they don't do it here. If they did we would start a thread about it.
It's unique for this region.
I remember there was one a few years ago. Not strong at all though. Big talk. And then there are hurricanes. Not much of them in this region either. More frequent than earthquakes. But not as much anymore.

I haven't really worked on many extravagant projects. Nurtured some pet projects over time... favourite (which doesn't work anymore!), was a program that sent SMS text messages via an online interface. Very convenient, but the website has changed how it works (potentially techniner's work ;)). I haven't put much work into remedying the problem, but man am I frustrated.

My hat's off to you. What kind of chocolate are you giving up?

  • Chocolate candy bars like Hershey's?
    • Regular or King-Size bars of solid chocolate?
    • Dark Chocolate With Almonds?
    • Kit-Kat?
    • M&M's?
    • Cadbury's?
    • Krackel?
    • Mr. Goodbar?
    • Rolo?
    • Whatchamacallit?
    • York Peppermint Patties?
    • Reece's Peanut Butter Cups?
  • Chocolate ice cream?
  • Hot cocoa?
  • Chocolate cake?
  • Chocolate chip cookies?
  • Chocolate cupcakes?
  • Chocolate silk pie?

Hah.I think I hate you!

All of the above, to be honest. Anything with chocolate in it.
It's kinda experimental. I think I might be mildly allergic to dairy products (I feel congested most of the time). I'm cutting down/quitting on anything with dairy stuff in it, chocolate, milk in tea/coffee, cereal etc to see what effect it might have, or not have I suppose. Decided to use lent as an excuse to start, and will see how effective it was to decide whether or not I'll keep it up.

>> You must have a strong will. :icon_cheesygrin:
Haha. Not particularily. But I'm hard-pressed to change my mind once I make it up. Maybe stubborn would be a better word for it.

I'm going to say whiskey, but being Irish and narrowminded I haven't really tried many of the Scottish brands. My brother likes the earthy taste (his words), of whiskys... Contrary to stereotype I don't really think that much nor that heavily, but I do like whiskey a lot.

The concept of getting voltage is fine, but the phone is a hoax, I'd imagine. I'll make the circuit on Monday in college and report back.

I accept that, AD. Though, I think most of these users would prefer to be called teenagers/adolescent rather than boys and girls. Not certain what irked me about it, to be honest. Maybe I should post in the "what annoys you most" thread. Also the definition of an adult is different depending on where you're from. At 18 people are adults here, 21 in the States. Also, if over half of the users on the forums are guys does that mean that it's OK to call everyone male? ;)

Well in that simplistic argument you're probably right.
However. What you're missing out on is that if God created mankind, and if they were created in his image to remain as his image one should live in his presence, and it would only be in continually living there that one could hope to be like him, which would be what you were talking about. You living in Eden? Like learning to play like Hendrix. Best person to learn off would be Hendrix. And to 'keep up' with the trends, you'd really have to live with him.
Your free will point is interesting.
