I would seriously suggest reading a copy of Stephen Hawking's "A Briefer History of Time", or another book like it, that is where I get my information. I will try and explain with the best of my ability but to get a full account you should read the book. The theory of relativity predicts the amount of time "lost" due to gravity with great accuracy. It was tested in 1962 with two clocks at different heights and the one closer to the earths surface ran slower in exact agreement with general relativity. It also depends on the observer's point of "view". If they are at the bottom, their clock it is running perfectly. If they are at the top their's is running perfectly. It is if you are looking at both clocks you notice a discrepancy. This shows how time is relative to your position. Time is connected to space to form something called space-time which is able to be bent by gravity so this is one way that shows time is not an independent "item". If you could tear a hole in space-time you could theoretically travel in time if space-time was bent a certain way. It is very hard to explain if you are not an astro-physicist so I am sorry if this didn't help.

and they also probably don't have a lot of time to educate themselves about all the candidates so they decide not vote.

jasimp 427 Senior Poster Featured Poster

yes and that is why it would happen in a pure democracy.

jasimp 427 Senior Poster Featured Poster

What about Switzerland ?

Well I guess I did not research this well enough before posting, but, Switzerland's population is around 7 million while the USA has a population of around 300 million. Switzerland's small population makes it easier to have a pure democracy then a country like the United States. Also a pure democracy is people who choose to participate. I am sure that 90% of people in the United States would not participate but then complain about the decisions made.

@jbennet, yes you did mention republic earlier but I added how the USA is part capitalist as well as being part republic.

jasimp 427 Senior Poster Featured Poster

I tended to agree that democracy was the best form, with a federal government. Like Lincoln said in the Gettysburg Address: "government of the people, by the people, and for the people."

Seeing as the united states would have one of the best governments in the world if it was run properly and not corrupted, and it is not a democracy. The united states is a mix of republic and capitalist, also some argue it is actually a plutocracy because of the large amount of lobbying that happens. Democracies never work because a large amount of people cannot run a government.

This is my favorite chili recipe, it is authentic chili because there are no beans.

3 pounds stew meat (beef, pork, and/or lamb)
2 teaspoons peanut oil
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 (12-ounce) bottle of beer, preferably a medium ale
1 (16-ounce) container salsa
30 tortilla chips
2 chipotle peppers canned in adobo sauce, chopped
1 tablespoon adobo sauce (from the chipotle peppers in adobo)
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin

Place the meat in a large mixing bowl and toss with the peanut oil and salt. Set aside.

Heat a 6-quart heavy-bottomed pressure cooker over high heat until hot. Add the meat in 3 or 4 batches and brown on all sides, approximately 2 minutes per batch. Once each batch is browned, place the meat in a clean large bowl.

Once all of the meat is browned, add the beer to the cooker to deglaze the pot.
Scrape the browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Add the meat back to the pressure cooker along with the salsa, tortilla chips, chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, tomato paste, chili powder, and ground cumin and stir to combine. Lock the lid in place according to the manufacturer's instructions. When the steam begins to hiss out of the cooker, reduce the heat to low, just enough to maintain a very weak whistle. Cook for 25 minutes. Remove from the heat and carefully release the steam. Serve immediately.
