I was wondering if anyone knew of a good text editor for python ?

I use ConTEXT a lot, it is free, relatively small, fast and reliable. It does highlight Python, and you can configure it to run your code from the editor.

There is also an improved version of IDLE called IDEstudio (the IDLE editor comes with the normal Python installation). I am just playing around with IDEstudio, you can download this Python specific editor from:
http://starship.python.net/crew/mike/src/idledev/IDEStudio.html
