Hi guys.I thought about it for a while but i didn't get anywhere.Is there any alternative to polling?

Is there any alternative to polling to do what?

For example in communications there is often an alternative to get the system to tell you when there is data waiting rather than polling for it.

I was thinking about a process similar to a window procedure .. something message based , one that depends on a condition to execute a set of instructions and which otherwise stays in a sleep state without keeping the processor busy.
